Prepped for Petersburg?
Some of you may know that after a long absence my baby finally came home last weekend. Some very cool work has been as we try and push the limit of power a DSP integra can make. Just in time too, with the Petersburg ProSolo right around the corner. Unfortunately my first of National of the year is also only my 3rd event of the season.
This thread started off as a basis for ideas https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=300518 on how we could make some usable power under SP rules. I took one of the more exotic approaches and turned it into reality. ITBs and Electromotive making up the majority of the work done.
She came home on Saturday afternoon and almost immediately ended up in the garage on jack stands to receive the new suspension. By mid-day Sunday, I was comfortable with everything so it was time to play around with some shock settings. So far I'm VERY impressed with the Advance Design shocks. The only down side so far is the adjusters are difficult to reach with the key in the front of the car. Stupid STB is in the way. Ride quality is superb considering the 650F/800R rates on the car. Balanced is really the keyword. I just wish I had time to push the limits and dial them in with some Hoosiers before Petersburg. That's what Friday practice is for right?
Monday... The car is running very rich and Chris left his laptop power cable in my car when he dropped it off. So I take off from work at 1:00 and drive up to Red Shift in Kingston, PA. The new shocks and springs have over 200 miles on 'em now so we figure its settled enough to corner weight and align.
Here's where the car started when we brought it in to the shop :
Empty :
LF = 834
RF = 747
LR = 413
RR = 477
Total = 2472
Cross % = 53.0
Here's what we came up with after about 5 rounds of adjustments :
Empty :
LF = 799
RF = 781
LR = 447
LR = 444
Total = 2472
Cross % = 50.2
With Me :
LF = 873
RF = 812
LR = 525
RR = 470
Total = 2681
Cross % = 50.0
Not too shabby huh? The car handles like a dream except for inch total toe out up front! OOPS, Talk about twitchy!! Nothin' a little alignment can't fix tho. I sure hope we can use camber kits next year in SP cause the car has some SERIOUS camber now! ... or at least more then I'd like. About -3 up front and a hair over -2 rear. Handles VERY well so far! I'll have to take some temperature readings this friday to be certain.
We changed a sensor that was bad replaced and axle seal then went out to try and clean up the fuel mapping a little to help set things up for the dyno later this week. So we drove around for about and hour or so. Chris had his laptop plugged into the tec3. I drove the car under different levels of throttle while he monitered all the engine details real-time on his laptop. We managed lean out most of the idle and low-end and fatten up WOT and the high RPM band. The car is already stronger then it was 24 hours ago. We should have some numbers for you guys to check out tomorrow after some dyno tuning.
Downside of all this? We did find a small leak in my exaust after the resonator in the cat-back. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do about this one... Maybe nothing until after Petersburg. Its always something tho right?
Needless to say I'm giddy with anticipation for the Petersburg Pro this weekend despite my VERY limited seat time this year. I think the car is in the best shape its ever been. I just hope I'm up to the task
. Thats it for now everyone! Just thought I'd share. To those going to Petersburg? I'll see ya there!

Hahaa... I think you're gonna have you're hands full trying not to get beaten by your co-driver let alone worrying about being anywhere close to me. Actually... now that I think about it... I hope my car can pass tech too

Unfortunately, Friday is only practice starts. No turns. So, you are going to have to make suspension changes on the fly this weekend. I am really interested in seeing how yours and Mike's cars run this weekend. Good luck everyone.

Matt, can't wait to see this car running.
Mine's currently about two hours away in a garage sitting on jack stands... right where I left it Saturday night. Supposedly, it'll be rolling again tomorrow night... just in time to leave Thursday. :D
Last minute? Nahhh.... will probably do a couple more things in Petersburg.

Yeah... I was afraid of that! Oh well... I'll just wing it! I'll just never hear the end of it from Mike if the car doesn't perform!

You and Mike are going to have to do some street racing this weekend to see who has the ***** off the line. Should be interesting. Glad to hear you finally got it back.

Should be interesting indeed... Wasn't quite what I expected but then again I'm not sure what I expected...can't make Filet Mignon from ground chuck I guess. Here's what people wanted to know...
Wet/street setup (for this weekend)
163hp
121lbs (basicly from 5k up)
Midrange is pretty fat thank god!
Dry setup (nationals only)
170hp
130lbs (again from 5k up)
Power increases of dry over wet are constant over the ENTIRE RPM range.
I'll have to see about getting the actually charts posted (that may have to wait tho). Overall I'm VERY pleased with the curves and I have a couple ideas to help clean up those numbers a bit (especially the wet setup). Anyways... cats out of the bag! All secrets revealed (unless Mike thinks I'm sandbagging). For what its worth (which is probably about a whole 35 cents), seat of the pants dyno returned EXCELLENT results. Neck snapping throttle response.... Excellent pull through the entire RPM range (especially 1st & 2nd).
Oh well... nothing else to do before Petersburg! See everyone there!

What's with the "dry" setup only for nats? What's the difference between the two?
