Default Is there a REASON why type r headers are longer than the GSR header?

gentlemen (and the few ladies)
i am curious to why honda made the type r header a little bit longer than the gsr header. I know it's longer to fit (duh) but why. I understand some of the gsr headers don't have 02 bungs, but I might be customizing a header and need to know if the longer the header the more power it pulls. if anyone has the link (is there one? i read some info on this in a book, but dont know if its on the net) to where it tells you exactly what parts of a header extracts what type of power (meaning: if the primaries are longer before it merges then it will create more high end power...that sorta deal)

i respect the knowledge of most of you type r guys, so your advice is appreciated

if you haven't surfed over to my other thread related to this...please do so and help me out.

car has all bolt ons, cams and valvetrain, will be doing pistons and headgasket within the next year, wanting high end power. thanks for your advice and time.

why build a custom header when SMSP can custom build it for you?

how much does SMSP charge? Im in a little bit of a budget, just dropped 5 bills on a clutch and flywheel, so im lookin to see if i can manage with something else. Im sure i could get $100 out of my header, so thats a start, but i'd like some more info on smsp.

SMSP charges around a grand for headers, but often has long lead times.

Coolest header I've seen recently, is the new comptech race header...it goes almost completely to the exhaust, and has like two or three inches of pipe as a test pipe, more of an adapter if anything to convert the 2.5 inch collector to most 2.25 inch exhausts. It's about the same price, but will get to your door in 3-5 business days.

Check em' out, they're pretty freakin kool.....If you're on a tight buget, the JDM 4-1 is cool cause you can use the headshields, other wise, the DC JDM 4-1 is the next best thing.

Later,
Aj

my jdm header is totalled. im thinking about takin it off and having the primaries "fixed"...anyone done this?

i also need to make my own heatshields since it's a DC. i like the DC over the regular honda b/c its a lot lighter, but who konws which one will really last longer. see ya kiddies.

Well....the DC may be lighter, but in all honesty, you could just skip the cake at dinner...that small amount of weight really isn't accounting for much...I know every little bit counts and all, but header weight is hardly an issue over performance and practicality....

As an fyi...heat shields are really easy to make with sheets of aluminum and a welder, but a $300 header isn't worth trying to get fixed...probably be more cost effective to just get a new one.

Good luck..

ive heard good things about fastline performance's skidplates. think it would be wise to get a honda jdm header and use one of the skid plates, or just try building one of my own on a new dc jdm? anyone done this one a dc? I really need one, and love the power, but just its not a full race car, so i still have to drive it on the road. thanks for the input guys.
