All RSX-S w/ Hondata-4
All you guys w/ Hondata-4........what are ya'lls opinion on it?....do you guys think that it was worth the 5-600 dollars?.....how much of a difference did ya feel? Is it true....people w/ I/H/E and hondata run mid to low 13's?........Just wanted to hear from the people that actually have hondata-4......or if you know someone that has hondata-4
get it. there's no better mod right now for the $. it smoothes out vtec kick in, drops your vtec point, and gives you more room to work with at the top of the rev range. i was orignially outfitted with a "prototype" K20A-5...which had an even higher rev limit (8900), but my power drops at about 8200, so what's the point. anyway, it's worth it. Doug is a great guy and does great work over there in Torrance.

what do you mean do it again?...you don't have your RSX anymore?

No, what I mean is there is no reason with only bolt ons to take your revs up to 8900. With internal mods, such as the Hytech kit, it can be shown to create power up to 10,000rpms. Personally, if I were to go the Hytech route, I'd spring for the AEM Programmable EMS system. It's a complete replacement for the OEM ECU and you can tune your vtec and rev points anytime you want.

i've driven my friends rsx-s (hondata stage 4, aem cai) before and after the hondata. It's definitely worth the money ($600). Smooths out the power throughout the whole powerband. Its a great mod, damn those k-series motor...soo much potential

I agree. I've been hearing many good news about it.

about $1400 for the box...it comes with maps that are only designed to get your engine fired up...then you have to tune it on the dyno to dial it in. you'll spend about 2-4 hours on a dyno working out the kinks so, figure the cost of your local dyno spot into the cost of ownership. oh, and you'll need a laptop if you want to view or edit the maps in your car or if you want to data log in real time. for the money you'll spend, you get quite a system. you do have to know what you're doing though or you can easily blow your motor. make sure your dyno shop has a great Honda tuner or go hire one to dyno with you.
Tuning for full throttle on a modified (read cams, boost, etc) K series engine takes about 3-5 hours if you want to do it properly. And that is the easy bit.
Dyno tuning at part throttle gives different results from street tuning. Tuning for part throttle requires street tuning with a wide band and that can eaily take 2-3 times as long.

oh man!!!!!!!! i just got my ecu back today from hondata, and i mean damn! this ish is tight yO!
haha seriously though, it has been a long 2 1/2 days but it was all worth it. best money i've spent on my car. i dont know if it is because i haven't driven my car for 2 1/2 days or the power had something to do with it, but i killed my car twice coming out of my driveway. didnt expect it to be that torquey (if thats a word) all together this mod is amazing!!!!
gotta go drive around again

hmmm.....good question!........

Part of Honda's testing procedure is to run the engine at peak power for 400 hours. In the case of the RSX in stock form this is about 7500 rpm for 3 weeks stopping only for oil and filter changes.
Then the engine is run at the redline - 8100 rpm for a further 100 hours.
In the case of the JDM ITR K series engine it is run at 8400 rpm for 100 hours as that engine has a higher rev limit.

Any modification like this is going to put wear and tear on the motor..Even putting a turbo kit on a built motor is going to do this..A motor doesn't last forever, however honda does it's best to make them last..Just don't beat the car to death everyday if your concerned with the long (or short) term effects..I think this mod is a good idea if you want to keep the car n/a and you want some extra power..Going faster requires more money..
