pressure cleaning under the hood
ive heard rumors that itd be ok to spray the inside of your motor with a hose..if you dont hit certain parts...i dont believe this. does anyone here do it?
Spray water inside of the motor?? Not a good idea!
Maybe you're talking about hosing under the hood..
Just cover your distributor with plastic and avoid spraying that area, and make sure you spark plug wires are pushed in all the way... Then you're good to go!

it says pressure in your title, do you have a pressure washer, that does wonders just seranwrap the distributer and the intake filter and blast away (well don't blast away, maybe you need to cover something else...)
ive done both before...no big deal..just try not to soak the dizzy, around the spark plug holes, battery, and anything electrical...then if possible dry the engine with a leaf blower or air compressor..spray a lil armor all on your hoses or anything rubber, plastic,or black, and its a wrap....
good luck

dang i wouldn't dump water inside the cylinder walls or the head. heh
j/k
hell yeah I do that all the time. Not kidding! I just cover with heavy cloth over my turbine, unhook the battery, cover obvious parts and just use engine degreaser and spray inside like 4th of july and and just wash em off good. last thing is to dry it, and just let the car sit for at least an hour before you start the car again.
I've done it and my car still runs fine. wished I had a digital camera so i can post some pix

Just cover certain components like everyone said, then blast away.
The good thing about a pressure washer, you don't use as much water to clean an area, b/c of it's high pressure.

speaking of pressure washers, where can you get a high quality steam cleaner? do you just hook up a hose from your water heater to the pressure washer? Or do they actually sell steam cleaners? I see dealers and stuff advertising steam cleaning services for the engine bay, but I was wondering if I could pick up a good steam cleaner myself. And I'm not talking about those shitty Steam Buggy deals on TV, my friend bought one and they don't work all too well.
high quality I don't know, but I know a shop here (Honda Star) in S. Cali that does that. $80~$100 or less
I personally just buy 2 bottles of foam degreaser and do it myself.
Someitmes the engine bay just can't be cleaned with the degreaser cause of old oil deposits that got stuck onto walls and the whole engine bay. If that's the case then maybe payin that amount might be worth it esp when someone is tryin to sell his/her car.

Use degreaser w/ a hose or pressure washer. Make sure the engine is cold. Then when you are finished start the car and drive it to dry it off. I have done this many times to many cars and found it to work quite nice.
