The news was "officially" announced recently. The prices have not been holding too well for some time.
I too cannot explain it, as it is a honda, and should hold its value accordingly.

When a model has sold a lot, more and more people get it so the price (new or used) lowers. But when a model has only 300 items (ex Ferrari Mclaren) then the price goes up. Those 60 people who had bought the McLaren F1 can now sell it in the twice the price it was. And those who own one of the 5 (!) McLaren F1 GTR, while at least 1000 people waiting to buy one can sell it .....(****). That's why the S2000 in america is so cheap. In my country only 300 S2000's exist, and a used S2000 '01 costs 40,000$.
I wouldn't expect the prices to go any lower than they are now though. I'm not sure why the price drops so fast. The car hasn't changed much in the past 3 years..

Just FYI the S2000 is a limited run car. There are only 10,000 a year made so this isn't the reason the price is dropping. The #1 reason is the state of our economy in the U.S. right now. No one wants to buy a $30,000 roadster that seats two when the economy is still in fairly bad shape. So rarity is not an issue. There are only 6 S2000's in my town of 200,000 people. That's still pretty rare compared to all the vettes, which I might add are not holding their value quite as well as they were.

yup... agree.. state of economy is poor..that's one..
but, another factor is keeping the used car market done.
low financing on new cars...this option is making the new car buying process a much more lucrative option than it was before. stimulating the economy by lowering interest rates is a great option for the new car market, but it in turn causes an influx in used cars (as more customers sell their old car and get into a newer vehicle with lower financing).
that's also another reason why resale is lower than average...personally, i don't care for the 350z so i wouldn't sell my s2000 for a 350z. besides, used car market isn't an issue for me because i don't plan on selling the car for a long long time.

You also have to take into account that the S2000 although limited to 10,000 a year, has not changed the body or engine by much. Nothing noticeable. They basically fixed the things that they should have. Economy of course plays a big part. Just give it time and let the 350Z hype die down. People will later realize that Honda built a better car.
It has been verified as true, they're talking about it in another thread. I don't think the official performance specs have been released yet though. I honestly think the 2 liter will not lose any more value after the 2.2.

Thats a killer deal the prices will stabilize at some point they have to, if not honda ios going to get creamed on the lease bybacks. My 5 year lease has the cars value holding steady at 17K for buyout, after owning the car ~20 months's mine worth ~19K street trade in value. I own quite a bit more then that, hopefully my car will dissapear or roll off a cliff soon because I sipmly could not take the loss on the car as it stands as quite a few people who own them can't as well.
But it comes right down to 0% financing as a steady thing, the public is starting to think that this is a long lasting thing which it simply can't be in my opinin and that will take the used car market to the dump until they rectify it.

I have no idea where you guys are finding these deals on s2000's.
I am currently in the nyc metro area looking for a slightly used s2k and the prices are still in the $25K+ area for cars with 20K+ miles on them.
I am jealous of your location. It seems whenever I talk to one of these guys on the phone and mention the new s2k with the new engine, they claim they have no knowledge and don't budge on the price.
By the way, new to the forum.

Thats somewhat normal....
my roommate got one for $24,5 with 5,000 miles on it. Its a 2001 model, clean as a whistle...obviuosly had incredibly low mileage.
