axels wont pop in.. EMERGANCY!!!
have axels for my eg. (92-98) and a 98 ex tranny. tring to get the car running from the swap. axles slide into tranny, but get about 1/4" from being in. and wont go further. been tring to force em in... nothing is working. what is the trick? is there something o do with that C clamp on the end? i am out in the cold and dark. so please. somebeody give me a helpful hint FAST! thanks.
i just looked into the ex tranny. and in four spots the teeth have a smooth spot. like a + sign. but it doesnt look like naything is broken. they just arent all teeth.. they have these small gaps. and when i bought my new axles the only thing the guy asked me was if it was abs or non abs. i bought the non abs cuz my cx is non abs. they slide into the hole at the rotor. but will not go into the ex tranny. what do i need to do. thanks

i had a similar problem. i was putting in new axles for my b16a in my eg. the driver side fit with no problem while the passenger side (the ones with the teeths) went in about half way and then wouldnt go in. so i looked at the teeth on the axle and it looked like they werent gap far enough so they'll fit the teeth in the tranny. i just took a big filer and filed the teeths in more so the gap was a little bit bigger. make sure you dont file it too much and make sure that when ou file it, to file it straight, dont be in a rush. i was cautous with the filing because i didnt want the gap too big so i filed it 3x (trying each time to see if it went in) and the third time was the charm.
im sure your situation is similar. look at the teeths on the axle to see if they're not gap properly. good luck.

or you could buy the right axels. sounds like to me you are using the stock cx axles and you need to get the ex axles. im 100 percent positive but why take a chance and rule out a good possibility you know? there are so many different trannies and eingine and car combos, just try it and see then you will have a better idea of wher you stand.
yup. i bought cx/ dx axels... and using a ex tranny. if i buy ex axels.... then they wont fit in the hub where the rotor is. what am i supposed to do?
i thought about if i can get somebody old ex inner cv joint housing.. the metal cup that goes into the tranny. and can use the cx axels, just use the ex inner metal housing... and redo the rubber boot for the grease.. will this work. are the inner cv joint bearings and everything the same size on cx and ex? PLEASE help me... thank you

na bro... they dont fit in the tranny. ex has different # of teeth.
NOBODY knows if the inner cv joint on the ex and cx/dx are the same size. like the bearings and all? will cx/dx axles fit into ex inner cv housings? thanks

Mine wouldn't go into my 93 si hatch. So I got a 20 lbs sledge after struggling for about 2 hrs trying to get it in there and swung. TWICE with a 20lbs slegde! I'm telling man just put a little more *** into it.
I had to bang on the axle boot with a rubber mallet. Both sides, then I had to use a metal hammer to lock in place by hitting the brake drum... Use some WD-40 to help slide, but not a lot cause it will thin the oil once filled.

Why force things places they dont belong. If your gonna do it, do it right

-se more force.
-be gentle on the cv boot though.
-I place the ubber handle of one hammer on the cv boot near the inner joint.
-then tap that hammers head with another hammer.
-this protects the cv boot a little bit from beng pinched by the hammer.
I do not believe the 92-98 civic D series had more than one type of axle as far as splines on the ends.
good luck.

yea i figured that there was probably never a deviation in splines on teh axles themselves but out of all the different cars out there you just never know. especially with people trading and swapping parts form other countries liek japan and canada and europe. theres bound to be some bump some where uknow.
did you hammer it in from the hub...also line up the teeth they should slide right in...if you say theres a little gap..it might already be in but just needs to be pushed a bit more...or if not theres some rust or dirt...
i just changed my axles last week...also when you get them in...try to move the wheel or brake drum up and down...it should NOT wiggle..if it does hammer it in more from the hub so the axle is all the way in...

I agree with the rubber mallet idea. There is a locking clip in the inside of the tranny, that's why you use a pry bar between the tranny and the axles to get them out. It's hard to get them in by hand, so you take a rubber mallet and GENTLY tap the axle around the boot to get it in, you'll hear it click in when it does.
I did the same thing when i put a si tranny into my hx.

Thats why I was having a hard time with my axles. I was putting stock axles into a stock tranny. Seriously get a bigger friggin hammer and tap it harder and harder until it goes in. If the space is a 3/8" or less its already in there it just needs to get past the clip.
ok... i have some people saying that the ex had 28 teeth.. the cx and dx have 26. which is it? anybody that has installed an ex transmission using stock axels.. w/o beating the **** out of em with a sledge... the axels are one unit... boots attached and all. thats the way i bought em. and the car is on a jack... engine in the car. how the hell do you expect me to swing a big *** hammer... no room. and if i am hitting the cv joint cup... the metal peice that pops in the tranny....wont it slip the rubber boot. this is very irritating...
do the ex shafts inner and outer.. have different # of teeth. ? and i cannot just change out everything up front cuz i dont have the $ or time. thanks

UPDATE!! had a friend on here that looked up some stuff. his dx axels worked fine in his ex tranny. honda auto slavage has same part # for dx, cx, ex tranny's. so i tried again. passenger side went in easy.. acouple light taps with the hammer where the axel bolt is. the driver side will not go in though? hit it a little harder with a 5lbs sledge in the same location? gana try some grease or oil... WISH ME LUCK!
ok. i never counted the teeth on the passenger side before it popped in. but this driver side i have fits in where the outter hub is no problem. the inner hub is being a bitch. beat on it but it doesnt want to go in at all once the teeth touch. counted the teeth on it and it has 25... not 26, but 25. and i counted twice? is this right? i am going to try some grease and see if it works, but i dunno... somebody that is an axel expert, hook me up

Why force things places they dont belong. If your gonna do it, do it right

because sometimes things are meant to be forced into place....
I returned 3 axels to a place because of that THEORY... then my buddy's older brother happened to show up at the shop (he used to work at a honda dealer)... asks us what's up cuz he had heard we kept returning the rebuilds... looks... walks to his box... pulls out a BFH (I mean BIG) gives it 2 SOLID wacks.. slides right in...
He saw that I was scared so he goes... pull it out and look at it... don't worry it's fine... if it goes in that far it's all lined up... I did... it was fine... I should have just beaten the thing in to start with..
some times the lock ring drops down and only a LARGE amount of force will force it up and in to line.

yea, well i slid it in til i felt the teeth line up...then hit it with a hammer.. like a 5lb hammer. wont pop in... but it did make the threaded part start to warp to where it is tight to get the nutt on and off...and now... i guess something is lodged bc it wont come out either... been pring and pring... will not come out.. but it isnt in far enough at all... still right where the threads meet.
think i should get it back out, and just try my hardest to position tht C clip? i dont think it is supposed to be this hard? the other went in a lot easier?

ok. i am fed up. **** this car. something is seriously wrong. i have been tring to pry it out... and i have pushed so hard to pry it out (when the threads havent even gone in bu maybe 1/8" at most... been tring to pry it back out so hard that the bottom of the ******* tranny housing just cracked around where that seal goes... why the hell wont the POS come out?!? anybody want to buy a ****** hatch...POS
take a 2x4 and place it at the end where the axle goes through the rotor and beat the hell out of it with a BFH! That should drive it in there!
na, dont think it is going in for whatever reason.... cant get it out... and cracked the bottom of the tranny. so i guess i just paid $225 for a 98 ex tranny w/ 60k miles on it... owned it for 2 days..... broke it before i ever even shifted it. life is a bitch. i am very de-motivated.
