OT: looking for information on a 1985 Mercedes 190E 2.3L-16 valve European Edition
As the title states, my father has run into a grey market 1985 Mercedes 190E 2.3L-16 valve European Edition, orignial owner of the car, and they've asked that we look into selling it for him. I'm just trying to find any information that's available on this vehicle...which is proving to be rather difficult after spending ~2 hours on google.com yesterday.
Thanks for any help,
Austin

http://www.mercedesshop.com has some forums where you could probably get info/opinions/pointed in the right direction/etc..
I used to race these cars in Grand Am cup and other endurence races. I also was the crew chief for the World Challenge MBZ 16 valve team. What info are you looking for? You can email me your specific questions I will be glad to help. Euro cars had a few more ponies but many did not have the nicer interior as found in the US spec cars. Also you need to have all the grey market paper work for registering the car. How many miles? What color (yes it matters), has it every been painted, any records on the car maintence...etc.

It has an Oregon registration at the moment, it's a grey color, and it has ~275,000 miles, never been painted, leather interior, but the back seat has split at the top of the seat from sun damage possibly, has the original Blauplunkt speekers in the rear. The owner loved it so much he bought 2 more, so he had a total of 3 cars, the son has this one, but I think that it's still in the father's name. He bought the car in Europe and had it imported back in the day. Not sure about the rest of the information.

Those cars have a bunch of Cosworth engineering in them and it is one of the fwe cars since the 240D that was available with a manual tranny. I don't know if it is the motor or the suspension, but a lot of the stuff is designed by Cosworth on those cars. They handle really well, but it seems like the power was never there. Mileage would not be one of my main concerns about one of these cars, as those with higher mileage had more warranty, updated and recalled parts put on them.
check out http://www.mbworld.org forums for more info. It should be listed under w201 chassis.
edit: that is the first year for the 201 chassis, be careful, try to get the vin, go to you local MB dealer and ask them to run a VMI to make sure all the upddates have been done. You may as well have the car checked out there also.

Yeaks!! That is a lot of miles! Be prepared to do some major work to the car. Grey is not an original color on a true MBZ 16v. The car only came in 2 colors smoke silver and black(metalic w/a slight silver grey flake). The rear seat split is not unusual, the sun dry rots the thread and after years the leather seperates. 1985 is the 1st year of the 16v and only grey market cars where available in the US in this year. Honestly I wouldn't put a very large price tag on this car, what is the asking price?
As far as Cosworth goes they did all the head work on the car. If you look carefully you can see the same design in M3 of the same vintage. Cossi also had there hand in the Seirra's and all 3 of these cars battled it out for several years in the DTM series. I love those cars I have owned all of them, great history in all of them.
