Ok, so the tranny in my friends 98 Accord just went to **** basically. The local shop says a new tranny will be $3500. That makes me think He should just replace it with a new motor and tranny. I don't know what model he has, maybe LX or something. It's a 98 coupe, dark purple, not the V6.. I think it's a SOHC 2.3.... it IS an auto right now.

So, is that the right choice? The main problem I am wondering now (I don't know too much about H seris motors) is which motor? He wants to keep it street legal, and smoggable.

I see there's an H23A available, and if we can make sure it's 98 or newer, then an H22 would be cool. Which do you guys prefer, and WHY? any other advice, or help, or anything at all is appreciated.

Also, what would be required in this swap??? any help appreciated.
