Default OT (slightly): Cleaning Header

I know it's been asked before but my search was useless. Anyone know the product (commonly available at golf stores) which is used to remove the blue color from headers? Thanks in advance.

IMO, the best thing to do before applying anything else is sand it down w/ 200 grit sandpaper.

What does sanding it down do versus just cleaning it with Wenol or Blue Away?
