87 Octane in my GSR
Hey i went to get gas today and went in and paid for it then i came out realizing the pump i was at only had 87...I still had a little 93 in there and i have a little over half a tank of the 87. Is this going to pose a serious threat to my car? Should i just take it easy on it till i finish the tank?
Your knock sensor shall kick it. I have done this about 1 month ago myself cuz I forgot. Dont go in the range where VTEC kicks in. Take it easy on the car. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT go buy octane booster and pour it in there. Just drive and dont rev past 4k.
just drive easy. don't make it a habit though. when i was shopping for a GSR i checked out one owned by an older guy, said he usually put 89 in it. the car sounded like total CRAP!!

I'd like to know the affects of it too. my friend just put some in his eclipse and was saying that its really good for the car before racing. i don't know much about it so i just gave him a nod and said goodluck
{| YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR |}
and by paying 1.99 or whatever for octane booster, your treating your engine to a bath in the sickest filth. it coats everything it touches a thick brownish powder. might as well pour dirt in the IM. but if you do decide to do it, plan on replacing the spark plugs. seriously dont do it. it wrecks your ****.

I've used 89 for a couple years in my GSR and it ran fine (Vtec here and there). Maybe he didn't know how to take care of the car.

Ignore most of the dingbats in this thread. I say that you fill the rest of the tank with 93 if it worries you so much.
I have run mine on 87, only because I wanted to see how much retard the ECU would run and how much less power there is. It will do NO damage to your motor unless you continually fill up with 87.
If you feel the need to be on the safe side, follow what the rest of the people have said above. In any case, there isn't going to be any catastrophic engine faliure as a result of a little 87.......

that happen to me once, i happen to pump 87 octane into my gsr by accident and not realizing it. I had bout half tank full of 93 and pump 87 into my car, which i only pump 3gallons worth of it stopping at bout 5 bucks. ( didnt wanna get embarrased for pumping $1 worth of gas) so i decided to go with $5 to make it look better, anyways, when i drove off, seems like my car choked alot and stupid me hit vtec alot trying to burn out the gas. Anyhow just be careful....87 sucks *****, even if i dont have any money left, i still wouldn't settle for 87 especially motors that are built for Premium fuel only.
if u run 87 octane u should adjust the ignition timing to work with it. when u put in 93 octane you should advance the timing. the octane has to do with the point in which the fuel ignites in the cylender chamber. if u have advanced timing and run 87 octane you may notice "pinging" a noise which is to sum it up pre-ignition.
