1986 CRX B16A2 race car for sale. Asking $5000 OBO.
Remember the Lotus Elise with the B18C5 that could run down a Mustang Cobra? That was all about power to weight ratio. Well...
For sale:
1986 CRX Si chassis with a B16A2 DOHC VTEC motor swap out of a 1999 Civic Si. Motor was rebuilt by Comptech up in El Dorado Hills. Swap was done by L4 Imports up in Yuba City. Spent well over $5000 on the car, the motor, the parts, and the labor combined.
The motor is mostly stock with a race clutch being the only upgrade. It will run down most streetable cars it lines up with. It's got Integra front hubs and brakes. Axles are custom made in order to make the swap fit. The tranny had to be switched over to a cable tranny in order to make the swap work in this car. It has a custom chipped ECU to run with both the VTEC B16 and the cable tranny. The motor barely fits in the engine bay and even then, the engine bay had to be "modified" to make it fit.
No A/C, no power windows, no power door locks, no power steering, in fact, the only comfort it has is an am/fm cassette deck and seats. The car weighs in at, or under, 2000 lbs. That's much lighter than a gutted hatchback. Once this motor was put in, there's almost no room left in the engine compartment. This is literally a motor in a miniature frame with two seats, a gas tank and four wheels.
Make no mistake. This is NOT a comfortable street car. It drives rough, it's noisy, and it's uncomfortable. It is a car built with one purpose. To race. Period.
The body is white, with no real dents or dings. There's a large crack going across the front windshield. This car does not stand out. It just looks like an old CRX. Purely a sleeper. It's got the stock 14" alloy wheels, the one with four little holes in it.
The car is located in Northern California, and we prefer to sell to someone in Northern California that can either pick it up, or meet us halfway to take delivery of the car.
This car is not BAR approved. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to figure out how they intend to smog it, or if they want to take it to the smog ref to get the coveted little BAR sticker.
As a final note, there's always going to be someone bitching about the price. First of all, $5000 is our ASKING price. That's somewhat negotiable. Secondly, check around and find out just what it takes to swap a B16A into this chassis. Between the need to custom fabricate parts, as well as the complex wiring, the tranny and ECU swap needed to make it work, and the modifications that need to be made the body to shoehorn this ridiculous swap in, we're talking about a very pricey package.

I bet the car hauls ***. I had an '87 HB Si w/ B20vtec and the only races i ever lost were to a TT Supra and a GTS Viper. '86-87 CRX's are even lighter than my car was! Good luck with the sale, its a good price. I had over $14K in recipets for the two years i had my '87 w/ a B series.
