NHRA GAINESVILLE, FL Golden Eagle Mfg. Sponsored Car Takes Victory!!!!!
Gainesville, FL May 17-18, 2003
There were a few contenders running the Golden Eagle Mfg. badge all of which put up a valiant effort and had a great time.
Gary Gardella decided that this was going to be his event. After a somewhat disappointing 9th place qualifying position with a run of 9.431 @ 162.51, Gary turned up the heat in the elimination rounds taking out Jojo Callos in round 1. Advancing to round 2, Gary was up against a very hard hitting competitor, Mike Crawford. Gary got him in the end running a 9.316 @ 162.39 to Crawford's 20 sec. run due to gremlins. Gary's 3rd round was a bye run, but that didn't stop Gary from making an impressive pass of 9.091 @ 163.60 which lead him into his first ever NHRA finals round where he would face off against favored to win Kenny Tran. Off the line, Kenny seemed to be a little anxious and Gary took the win running his best ever 8.821 and setting the NHRA Hot Rod Class MPH record with an astounding 171.13 MPH Blast. Congratulations to Gary, Jon and the rest of the Gardella Racing crew.
JJ Olson had quite a battle in front of him. Working til the waking hours of the morning putting in a new motor for this race, JJ was sure to put up a good fight. Qualifying number 7, JJ was off his mark with a 9.59 qualifying run, his best to date is a 9.12. JJ faced off with Andrew Bermea in the 1st round. JJ took the " Bear " out with a 9.484 @ 157.75 bettering his qualifying time. JJ then went toe to toe with heavyweight Marty Ladwig and after a bad launch, lost to the Sunfire running a 10.3 to Marty's 8.57. Look for JJ to come back strong when the next NHRA event hits in ATCO, NJ.
Sav Leone seemed to be chasing gremlins all weekend long running a disappointing 12.7 qualifying him 11th. Sav left the game early losing to Marty Ladwig in the first round. Sav is sure to get things going strong, we're rooting for you Sav!
Venom was on a strong run qualifying number 4 with an 8.970 @ 156.87. Bruce and his team seemed to have figured out all the bugs in his Civic but decided to take it easy in the first round due to a no show. Walking into the 2nd round, Venom faced Kenny Tran which seemed to be a little much for Bruce to catch running a 9.1 to Kenny's 8.9 . Venom's Civic runs exclusively on Golden Eagle Mfg. blocks and is sure to get some wins under their belt in the future races to come!
I would like to personally thank all of the Golden Eagle Mfg. sponsored teams for the hard work and great efforts in this race season so far. Look for a couple more Golden Eagle sponsored cars to really shine in the next few races, especially Ed Bergenholtz, Lisa Kubo and Lenny Hong. Thanks guys and keep up the great work.

I'm sure Ralphy played an important part of that accomplishment, that car will be killer when it gets fully dialed it.
