Default 99-00 CTR/Si GRILLE....

what is the difference between the 99-00 Civic Type-R grille and the 99-00 Civic Si grille?

i have heard several things, and i wanted see if anyone knew FOR CERTAIN the real answer.

here are some of the things that i have heard... (let me know which ones are true).

1) they are EXACTLY the same.
2) the Civic Type-R has a THINNER mesh grille backing than the Si grilles.
3) the Si has a THICKER mesh grille backing that is used to hold the stock emblem in place.

????? which one(s) is/are true ?????

thanks. any info would help.

From my understanding...

The grill as well as the lower lip are the same on the Si and CTR. Who cares if there are slight differences? They appear to be the same part, visually.

SI grille has a thicker mesh, and it is made out of plastic. it looks better than CTR, IMO.

type-r lip has more of a flare on the sides. its basically an exaderated SI lip.

I remember seeing a thread like this, and it showed both a CTR and SI front lip on hatches, and it looked like the CTR flared out and sat lower, but in the end, it turned out that the CTR lip was a replica. So I THINK they are the same, but don't quote me on that.

si lip--

ctr lip--

its noticably different when you put them next to eachother. the ctr is much nicer. its more aggressive.

Like 98civictchback said, the type R looks more aggressive. The type R's mesh is a lot bigger than the SI mesh, which is very tiny looking. look at my picture of the 2002 Civic type R, that really shows the difference.

you got it mixed up. SI lip has a fatter mesh. type R is thinner.

and i don't know why you showed us a picture of a 2002 CTR, or why you are still talking about it. this whole thread is dealing with EKs, not EPs.

This lip is not an OEM Honda part, it is a replica. the SiR and CTR lips are exactly the same.
