is there any difference between the ls and gsr trannys? the b16a tranny would top out at 100 mph.

How do you figure the B16 tranny will top out around 100mph? That's not true. The B16 gearing is slightly shorter than a GSR's, so on the freeway you'd be running 400+- rpm's higher than a GSR. And yes, there is a difference between the LS and GSR's gearing. The last 3 gears and final drive are different. The GSR's 3rd gear is shorter than the LS and that's one of the reasons GSR's will walk away from LS's stock for stock. It's not just Vtec, gearing plays a big role on how your power is put to the pavement.

a j-spec 98+ itr tranny (same gearing as b16 with the exception of a 4.785 fd) on an ls would top out at about 100mph with the stock redline, the 4.40 fd on the b16 will allow it to go a little past.

closer gearing=faster acceleration, so b16.
