How to remove oil filter with simple tools?
The maintenance manual says to get a special tool from an Acura dealership...ba screw that!
Is there anyway I can remove the oil filter without that special tool?

The most special tool of all.....
Your hands
Try and get it with your hand. If not, take some sandpaper and try to loosen it with a better grip. If you have some Mechanix gloves around, pop one on, as the glove gives a good grip as well. Worse comes to worse, strap a leather belt around the filter and yank on it, or drive a flathead into the filter and turn.
Or you can go to the dealership and buy the filter wrench for $7 or something, if you want to skip the above.
Just make sure to hand tighten the filter...youll never have that problem again.

how do you chisel it out? what you do is STAB IT WITH A SCREW DRIVER and use the screw driver as a lever to unscrew it out. Then put a new filter in and hand tighten it. Then go wash your face, clean up the oil mess on the floor, take a shower, and change your clothes, since it'll probably be covered in oil. Don't forget your screw driver! Don't throw it away, you might need it next time.

Shoot, i think it's even less than that...it just attatches to your 1/4 rachet. Comon el cheapo
grab the tool since you'll be using it frequently.
of course, large open plier should work.

I used a big screwdriver to get my oil filter off last time. Worked like a charm because my hands were not strong enough to get it off the first time. it was put on hand tight too
I always wear rubber surgical gloves when I work on my car. You can get a good grip on the filter that way. Or get one of those Fram filters with the grip on the filter.

The oil filter on my teg is wayyyy inside so I have to use this claw looking filter grip to loosen it. If you ever have a trouble, get one of those disposable vinyl gloves & grip the filter with a sandpaper & it will come out easily.
you'll have to change the oil again. thats mixing new and dirty oil together. why didn't you get the filter when you bought the oil?
yea, like the guy above stated the "claw" haha i guess. Thats what i use. its made by craftsman and can be purchased at your nearest sears store. little more expensive than other oil filter things.. but its a craftsman tool so u can expect that. i think its around 12 or so.
here's a pic off of sears.com and i believe its called an oil filter wrench

I use my hand, if it is too tight I curse myself for putting it on too tight the last time and get my strap wrench. This is usually a pain the in the add, because about the time I get it adjusted and over the oil filter the strap wrench comes undone. If I can get it loose after a couple of tries I could back with the the hammer and a screwdriver. I hate resorting to that method, so I think I am going to invest in the claw.
