Road & Track or Car & Driver had a writeup on his collection, and some pics from inside the actual warehouses, right before the country fell apart. Apparently, the Sultan was "entitled" to about 50 percent of the GROSS NATIONAL PRODUCT(!) of the entire country...but the people weren't living quite so high, so they got a bit uppity...he shoulda had a car-lending program to keep the masses happy
(though they might prefer food)

This is my favorite part right here.
"In 1999 the Sultan invited Miss USA, Shannon Marketec, to spend six weeks with himself and his brother Prince Jefri. Shannon stated she had no idea she was basically a high-paid hooker. She should have known better, most regular visitors aren't paid the $127 000 USD the Sultan forked over for her to visit. Against her will she was forced to remain in Brunei the entire 6 weeks."
.....sounds like something iloveracing would do!

Car & Driver said he has something like 8 McLaren F1s, and a Dauer 962 LeMans (Porsche 962 LeMans race car, registered for the street).

The worst of it is, that when his car collection gets too big, he dumps a few in the ocean. The coasts of Brunei are littered with literally hundreds of exotic and vintage cars that his island is too small to keep. What a ******* waste
Thinking is for loosers! If a belief system isn't completely in-line with my own, then they're wrong. If you think i'm wrong, then you're wrong. I can't loose!
I don't claim to know jack/squat about the political system in Brunei, the only thing i've ever read about it was in that article. So i'm not going to get in a discussion about the finer points of Bruneiese living and government. See, i prefaced my statement with "apparently", and as we all know, apperances can be decieving!
Also, government is for loosers.
Now, to answer your questions
(1) What percentage of your income would you, as a citizen of Brunei, pay per year in taxes.
Since I am not a citizen of Brunei, not one Brueneiese dollar!
(2) What is the average cost of a doctor visit or hospital stay in Brunei?
That depends on what kind of nurse you get! (wink wink)
To get peoples minds further off track, the Sultan's boat had two tenders...and they were named "Titty" and "Nipple" or something like that. No joke. I think the Presidential helicopters should get cool names too.

Theirs is a different system, but their system is a valid one,.......
i have gotten into many arguments with people when i say this about another country's political system. i'm glad someone else agrees.argiris
Perhaps Aleph was a little too general for you fact-mongers. I dont know exact specifics but I know SOMETHING went south in Brunei. The result was that Jefri got reigned in a bit - the toys, hookers, and cars are his doing - and the island of Brunei is now not quite as excessive as it used to be, the heyday is past. That is all I know.
