keep the rex? or get an SRT-4?
I have the opportunity to get an SRT-4, thanks to a very very nice friend of mine who said she would co-sign for me, if I use the 90 b16 rex as a trade-in. now I know they're fast, I know I really do think they're sharp, and I know i'm asking whether or not people would keep their crx vs. get a domestic...in a crx forum no less, but given the opportunity to get one, would you? or would you keep the rex? This is a tough choice for me, so i'm lookin to get a general idea of what people would do in a situation like this if they were in my shoes... what do you think?
I rode in one and they feel pretty quick, really smooth.....I really liked the seats too.......They are decent cars, I don't think I would give up my rex for one tho.....Just turbo yer rex and go smoke some SRT-4s
im sure there are some hard core rex fans who wouldnt trade their rex for a viper, but honestly, in the end, I have to agree, just a much nicer, newer car.
u can do whatever u want to ur rex and make it even faster.. no montlhy payments, no interest, no bills, or insurance quotes skyhigh... u hit it, u regret it, then comes warranty issues since its a new car and turbo. u wanna be able to fix it if u push it and blow it., u can void warranty by making modifications to the car... and thats not worthed if they find out and u get stock...
is say stay outta bills, paperwork, hassles, and make ur car look nicer....
at the end, if u take a nice looking fast CRX to a car show it drains mroe attention than a SRT-4.. in a few months everyone its going to have them....

its a neon..keep the rex man..turbo it, then you will be able to toast those srt-4's and have a COOL car..crx's are awesome, keep it..neons are going to be everywhere in a couple months..
Yeah a B16 CRX is pretty fun already, turbo'd it will be sick!!
Plus, think about all the things you could do with that cash...Mmmmm...

All I can say is "Reliability Factor"! Yes, they are quick and decent looking. Are the new Neons as unreliable as the old ones? That is the question you need to ask yourself. Get what you want, But I will stick with my Honda.

I totally agree, there's already about 6 of them in Corona alone. I see them everywhere...One of which broke down on the side of the road last night (I drove by him when i was delivering some pizzas
) I guess that little spoiled kid jus blew up the car mommy n daddy bought him. He prolly floored it n launched the 2nd day he got it or something...oh well.

I have to agree with that!
A B16 CRX is fast anyway.. and a turbo kit for it is way cheaper than a whole new car. Not to mention the higher insurance of a newer turbo car. But it's your choice.

IF you do decide to get the neon (which i wouldnt do) then at least sell your call privately. The dealer will give you crap for a trade in. That is my only advice.
Boosted Rex, or boosted neon? C'mon now, its a no brainer.........A faster, better looking, more reliable car for half the cost. Plus, you know you will void the warranty w/in one week so that advantage is tossed out the window. YOU WILL MISS THE REX!

actually..only 5000 will ever exist. after that...NEON will be gone forever. Depend on how much you want to spend. remember..a new car means you're stock with 4+ years of payment and higher insurance. But if you really want it..go for it

Jeff-
i think it is a decent car, even though it's a Neon. i think Dodge has actually made a good product. whether it will be reliable is still to be determined, but that's what warranties are for. and for all those people saying you are going to void the warranty, there is a large amount of products that the dealer will let you put on, but the dealer will charge you an arm and a leg for their stuff. i would jump on the SRT4 if i could so i think you should. i mean i love the CRX but they're all over 12 years old, which fits my budget fine.
I think the most important issues are money and reliability...
With the money you're going to spend, you can take you rex and max the Fu#4 out of it... Think about it, every monthly payment(250-300$) could go into your rex for better parts/paintjob/maintenance...
I do like the new Neon SRT-4, but if it was up to me I would keep the rex and just spend the money on it and other things...

whoever said buy the Dodge pile-o-**** never owned one. Chrysler makes the worst cars on the road today. Whoever said buy the Neon needs to be PUBLICLY EXECUTED, I have many stories of many Chryslers, that belong to my customers, being bought back on lemon law. The only cars that are an upgrade over a Honda, are made by Germans, Italians and other Japanesse manufactures. Domestic automobiles are **** with the exception of the Z06, the new Cobra, and oh never mind all other domestics suck.

if you can get a SRT-4...GET IT! i would.
they're pretty damn fast, sporty, THEY HAVE A WARRANTY!, decent looks...why not? you can drive the **** out of it, and don't have to worry about a damn thing. that'd be nice...
if i could get one, i'd leave it completely stock...except for HAM'ING IT!!!

I say keep your crx. IF you want fast doemestic. Look at a used z28 or t/a. The SRT-4 is nice. If you are under 25 forget insuring it for cheap. I'd probably buy one if I wanted to drive a fast stock FWD car for years. I look at it this way. Imports are here to stay. They are cheap now but will go up for the CRX since they have a demand. By the time you pay the NEON of it would be worth as much Daytona turbo is worht now..NOTHING. SRT is nice but I doubt is worth buying since they have bad resale.

Considering the engine/tranny has been in mexico for some time... and there hasn't been a far outcry about reliability issues.

I see new hondas broken on the side pretty frequently too... are they unreliable?
Jesus, the amount of comments about "reliability" of the SRT-4 from this thread is quite grosteque, considering half of you have probably owned one car in your life.
Let's take a step back, the older neons had a crank walk problem (afaik), this happened with the DSMs...happened with miatas, happened with a few cars.
The SRT-4 has a completely different engine. They didn't simply grab a DOHC engine and slap a turbo on it like Madza did with the Madzaspeed.
Also, better looking? he's asking for advice, not what you think is better looking.
My advice:
Keep the CRX, but consider the SRT-4 or get a nice daily driver and build the CRX to whatever you want to do.
With ALL turbo cars, you have to consider that there's a different level of maintenance required. See, with NA cars, you can typically miss an oil change, turn it on and drive away without a warm up period, shut it off after driving it 3hrs and not even worry about letting it cool down... or even never lift the hood for 6 months.
However, do that with a turbo car and it's likely to let you know it doesn't like you.
Someone said a Boosted CRX and then offered their worldly knowledge of reliability issues with the SRT4. How many people know someone who's blown their B16A after turboing it, within 6 months? I know i have...
several actually.

Where to start hrmmm....
-First you posted in the wrong forum...
The main reason why you chose this forum is because you knew what the answers were going to be when you asked, so in essence you've already made up your mind. If you wanted a real answer, you would've posted on a general honda page(still biased, but A LOT LESS THAN THE CRX PAGE)
Prime example...
Reliability of a turbo'd rex? Wouldn't it be nice to run 13's or even 12's with a factory warranty? plus how much more money are you going to shovel into a all ready growing money pit. The more money you put in the CRX the more money you wont get back out. Because by now you've probably spent way more money on the car than you can sell it for. BY FAR IN EXCESS! As for the neons being everywhere...there will be only approx. 5000 produced this year. Not exactly like the CRX's you drive...not that originality was one of your key factors when buying a car right?
And it runs a 13.9 stock, and they offer warrantied factory PERFORMANCE upgrades, and they have the Viper seats in them, and 3 year warranty, and more displacement than any I-4 Honda, and HUGE brakes, and factory FMIC, and 225whp and 255 ft lbs, and btw what do you drive what again? Now how do you mean beat honda? On what level? Thats a pretty vague statement. And btw..Dodge has been turboing I4 cars since the 80's so its nothing new. The "and its just" comment is the same one that you Honda owners hate soo much when said by V8's...so why be a hypocrite and continue the useless ignorance?
-13.9 is quick? Compared to the 14.7 that the ELITE ITR runs? The question of reliability will only be told with time...and as far as the dependablilty of a 1st gen neon, the head gasket was the MAJOR reliability issue, resolved in mid-year 98 production when they switched to a MLS head gasket, and guess what! No HG problems any more...isn't that a ******* miracle.
- A 90 Honda box with looks? thats a ******* oxymoron if I ever heard one.

Oh im sorry I didn't know that your CRX had a great resale value. What exactly is one worth now? Yeah thats what I thought.
Considering the daytona was in the mid late 80's...
the tranny is a new NVG, sp it hasn't been out, but a tranny for the mexican turbo stratus has. Not exactly the same block...the mexi-stratus has the same crank trigger mechanism as the 2.0L blocks and the non-turbo 2.4L(not srt-4 or GT cruisers) blocks. Also the SRT-4 block has a bigger Oil galley, and MORE galleys than previous blocks.
