2000 GS-R vs. 3000GT SL: pointers on how to beat this guy!
First, do I have a chance? From the research I've been doing it sounds like it would be close. He has the 217 hp version. So, is my best bet from a roll or from a stop? He's a loud mouth, and I want to shut his *** up. We're both on stock engines. Let me know some info cuz this guy is a jerk and I'd like to make him admit defeat. Thanks!
First off, this doesn't belong here, try the street racing forum or whatever it's called.
If you are a good driver and can launch well, go from a stop. From people I've talked to, they say the FWD GTO's are hard to launch. If you get a good launch you should have him.
Seriously though, just do it and quit worrying about it. That's the only way you'll really find out. Please do it on at the strip and not on the street.

I'm not worried about it, I just was asking an opinion. And yes, most likely it will be at the strip. There is an event on the 30th I invited him too and he said he'd try to make it.
Also, have you ever tried posting in the kill stories or drag racing forums? All you get is a bunch of ******* remarks. That's why I posted it here, since I drive an Integra, I thought it would be a good idea to post in the Integra forum.

I haven't ever posted in either so I wasn't aware of that. I'm glad you don't just post anywhere like a lot of peeps, that's the only reason I said that.
Glad your taking it to the track!
Try and get your lauching skills down. Lauch that bish like a bat outa hell and you should be good. If you're not afraid to ride your clutch, try lauching from ~6k rpm. If you're not careful you can smoke your clutch easy. But if you do it right you'll take off like you never have before.

See that's the thing, it'll be my first time at the track. I keep wanting to go, but everytime I have a free weekend, it ends up raining!
Right now I take it up to about 5k and clutch out right at the point of engagement, then when I'm ready, I feather the clutch till the wheels hook up and then let go of clutch and gas it. It sounds like I'm doing it slowly, but it's only for a split second. I just always end up spinning the tires if I dump the clutch, so I do it this way. Does that sound like a bad way, or should I be dumping it? I have Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's up front, in case you were wondering.

It sounds like your doing it about right. You will be able to lauch a little higher on the track. Def don't dump the clutch. Also, drop the pressure in those Kumho's to about 25psi hot. And don't forget to go around the waterbox.
FWD 3000GT's aren't that slow if you get the 2xx hp V6. If I remember right they run mid to low 15's stock, with a good driver. Now the base model is SLOW.

Yea if you want to make the chances of you wining better, might as well take out the passegner seat, spare, jack, and back seats. Adds up to quite a bit.

Yes - from a stop or a roll.

My dad owns a 3000gt SL. I have driven it quite a bit . It will be a close race but if your a good driver , you should pull out the win. They have no top end power. and are quite heavy.
