Default Does VTEC have to warm up before it works???

I have been driving my lude for a few weeks now, and I have nothiced that when I first start the engine and begin driving, the VTEC wont kick in at all...

After I have driven for about a minute or two, my engine consitantly kicks into VTEC at 4.5k...

So does VTEC have to warm up or somethin?... Give me a shout...

yes, i ALWAYS warm my car up at least 10 minutes in the morning before driving it. its a habbit now, you should do it too. and yes, the car has to warm up before vtec engages.

BTW: VTEC doesnt wanr up, the engine does.

the engine has to warm up to operating temperature and go into closed loop mode and begin to read the engines sensors, before then, the ECU runs in a "fixed rich" setting that is pre-programmed. once the car warms up, all sensors are read, and VTEC will engage

I wait untill the engine is warm, 2 bars on a 4th gen. Once the signal is sent to the solenoid, it's going to kick in if the engine is warm or cold. That is if your engine is ok.

lol... yeah blah blah blah... sorry I meant: does the engine have to warm up. lol

kool thanx man... do you really need to run it a whole 10 min though?

I wouldnt ming 2 min... and isnt it just a waste of gas letting it go that long?

Thanx for the info though... just had to make sure I wasnt screwing somethin up...

Also, what if i just start it and drive conservatively for a few min... like keep it under 3.5k? THX...

your car is in "Limp" mode until the car is up to running temp, and oil pressure rises..

- just noticed that the question has been asked and answered.. lol.. oh well.. (Hey Sam, IBTL! j/k)

yeah, VTEC doesn't have to engage, it just feels weak on the high end, as long as you give it a sec to make a little oil pressure (which is almost instant on a Honda) then drive the hell out of it, as long as you've got oil pressure, you are fine

I would definitely suggest letting your engine warm up before going high rpms, or you will decrease your engines life a lot.

I give you the best answer tonight.
Ask yourself this........... do you have to warm up before you have SEX??
Well think of your engine like that, it needs and lil warming up before it can...... you get the picture.

Yes, and it explains it all right there in your Helms manual, which I'm *sure* you have, right? Repeat after me, "Anyone who mods their car should have one."
