Tranny is history
IN VTEC and I agree, we both think the tranny is totally done
so I have this JDM b18c1 sitting in my garage and I was wondering if I could use the clutch/flywheel/preasure plate that came with it (less than 20k miles full swap).. there is a little surface rust on the flywheel cause its been sitting for a while... I was wondering if anything needed to be done to it, its only temporary till I get my engine built, new clutch, flywheel and tranny
I think after a little rub action all that rust crap will be gone and ill have my teg back for a few hundred miles before i do my swap

You can see the impression the clutch has left on the flywheel. Same thing on the pressure plate. Nothing real coarse. Some 400 grit might take care of it, otherwise, the PP will need to be resurfaced and we'll use the old flywheel (unless a spring popped and royally f'd the flywheel).

How it started...

Where it stood some time today.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but are there a few burn marks in the flywheel? --if so, it's those things that will cause you annoyance later (like chatter & wear).
If it's burned at all, take a day or so and have it cleaned it up. It's a good habit to deal with the little stuff.
Nice looking engine...

no im going to pull the tranny and replace the junk so that in 400 miles I can yank the current engine out and replace it with a new engine, clutch, flywheel, and tranny...
The motor was from HMO.
Missing items thus far: driver-side lower chasis mount (D-shaped thing), driver-side upper mount nuts/bolt, and the joint was cut on the shift rod where it connects to the tranny via pressed pin.
That's all I remember right now.

End verdict on the tranny....clutch popped two springs and a broken retainer on the third. Only one spring and retainer that was unharmed. There was scoring and scratches on the flywheel and pressure plate.
Clutch release bearing was also chafing on the two races, making a rubbing/whiny sound.
Just a few days after the original post, the tranny would make high-pitched whining noises when you put it into a lower gear with the clutch in, and then the day that the car was put into the garage for the tranny swap, John heard a crunchy noise while reversing it into the garage.
The original tranny seemed just fine and we've already got it back in the car. Just odds and ends left.
Also of worthy mention is that the clutch release bearing and flywheel pilot bearing from the swap weren't operating real smooth. Both rotated on the rough side when they're supposed to rotate smoothly without chafing or catching.
I'll post the dead clutch pics later on after we put the tranny back in the car.
