Default s80 identification---what year, what model?

Is there any way to tell what year and what car (ITR or GSR) an s80 came out of from the numbers that come after the S80.

Tranny in question is an S80-3127556

Thanks.

nope.

if you crack it open, the differential bearings will let you know roughly if it is an "early" or "recent" design.
tapered vs sealed bearings.
I forget the cutoff date.
