part number 8.

the title of this image is POWER STEERING PUMP.

It LOOKS like the speed sensor, but its called the POWER STEERING SENSOR. Its also $240

so if thats not it, what page of the parts manual is the VSS on

YES, it is the speed sensor.

It is called the power steering sensor because on many hondas the power steering assist is determined by the speed, and is hence hooked up to the speed sensor.

Although the picture doesn't show it, I think the speed sensor (VSS) is an electronic part that sits on top of #8 in your photo. Ask the dealer to search for SENSOR, SPEED or maybe VSS. I think PS on 97+ is different, but the electronic sensor should be the same. It's under the MT CLUTCH RELEASE or something like that. Good luck...
