Default ProDrive Stage 2 Axles

Short story guys....Finally got to the track last nite and ran the car at MIR. Our first pass was made w/o the bottle. When the full boost hit the car woke up big time and was ll over the track. After second gear I went into 3rd then 4th quickly then putted the rest of the way w/o much boost(4psi). The car drove straight, even when I let go of the steering. Went back to the pits figured out why the FAST didnt engage the Nitrous and went out for another pass. I used the left lane, and 3 feet after the lauch the steering wheel was jerked outta my hand, missed the the tree by a foot or so and laid broke in the right hand lane. BTW this happened very fast and violent. Upon inspection while still on the track, there laid the rack and pinion! Along with that was the outer CV on the Driver side in pieces on the ground. Packed her up and left. I opened up the shop today and called ProDrive and told them the story(while puckering up for the verdict of the cost of this mishap) They told me to inspect and take pictures of the disassembly. I did so, then sent them the pics. They called back and they were happy! I was baffled. Then they told me theyll have me a new axle assembly overnite so we can try again this weekend. They were happy because the axle held up and didnt break but it was the CV cage that did. In our final conclusion the cage broke due to the steering rack from breaking. Even though it wasnt their fault they still replaced it! Has anyone ever broke the steering rack before?? I wish Honda would replace it for free too! J/K That thing is gonna cost 400 shipped overnite!

Howard

Just in case anyone who talks to Charlie or Jen......Tell Jen to call Rob at CR racing ...317 293 4100 (this might make you happier)

Something new.....The honda factory bushing design for the rack is very poor....I made new ones out of aluminum which are now at the machine shop being CNC out of steel....I will not have this problem anymore....Im back together now and ready to try again at the IDRC race at MIR...See some of you guys there...

Three things happened......

1: the actual Tooled steel shaft is bent and missing teeth

2: the Drivers side mounting bolts pulled through the rack

3: the threads in the end of the shaft are gone

This could be a result from many things....last years accident and the fact that we have the capability to hit the driveline with over 600ft tq at 5000 rpm....gee I dont know what happened...

The axle itself stood up to the punishment...only the outer CV broke.....And yes the axles are worth every penny....I was uneasy at first but we will be making a stock order on them at the end of the month....

Yes these axles are worth every penny, I know that on Lisa Kubo's car we had the proto type 1st set of them, We went form checking the axles every run to once every race. And never broke a stage 2 set up. Our weak link moved from the axle into the trans.

Howard I got a chance to see that launch (we were heading out) Didn't look like a fun ride to me. Get her together for this weekend, Hopefully she'll go stright!
Good luck
Charlie

Well, its back together but it does not look very good with mother nature! Hopefully she will go straight one day! I think we are gonna turn the boost way down...let it ride off the wastegate spring at 10psi......it still makes 431whp at that boost level.... that should get me down the track at 145-150mph....lol

PS.....The ole rednecks out at MIR didnt like that did they! I heard them yelling at me when I got out of the car!

Power:

30psi / no nitrous = 642.6 @6800 rpm

20psi / nitrous = 565.1 @ 9000rpm within 25 whp from 4800 to 9500
15psi / nitrous = 497.1 @ 9000rpm " " " "
10psi / nitrous = 431.1 @ 9000rpm " " " "

Tq = subtract 8 % from the power fig....thats what I come up with....on the nitrous

Im not ready to race it at anything above 20psi on the bottle....

Nice....I can't really justify 4500 for teh stage 2 setup though. That's steep

Something like this happened to me. I was pulling out of a gas station driving normal, I heard a noise and then all the sudden I had NO steering. I latter found out 2 of the 4 bolts that hold the rack up fell out on the same sime (driver) and it pulled apart where it meets the steering wheel on the bottom.
I am just glad it didnt happen when I was getting on it. I put lock tight on them
and no problems, but every time I am under there I make sure there tight.

the clutch is a CC Tilton....

4500 steep for a driveline that never broke on Kubos car????

As far as those bolts....mine did not back out the rack pulled right over the top of them

First thing....Im goin to say that our setup has a 99% chance that no one else produces the amount of torque as we do....I may never get this FWD car down the track but we have learned a great deal from its setup. If I was to do something stupid like, I dunno, build a RWD car(not Tube but Backhalved) (not that im saying we are )I see potential for our setup to put a 2300# car in to the 7's with a 4cyl. Back to my point.....As for the driveline to handle 650+ ....It will take it before the trans does....Lisa's car used a set all last yr....Everything will depend on the setup of them also.....If you want a set or want to talk about prices just give us call...

Just wanted to know, so are you claiming to have highest tq numbers in hot rod class or for all 4cyl hondas ? At your best dyno run, what was the highest tq u put down ? Sorry for all the ?s just wanted to compare...
