A/C issues...help!
Ok...recently its become quite warm in Georgia and we needed to use the A/C...well, in the morning it works fine (when its not incredibly hot outside) and when we are driving down the highway or generally traveling at a good rate of speed it works fine...
BUT...when we hit traffic or come into the city area where there are alot of stop lights, the a/c just pretty much stops working...it will stay cool for a few minutes but then you can feel it stop blowing cold air out and just blowing semi-cool (if that) out...leaving me to turn it off and roll the windows down.
Now some symptoms we have been experiencing have been low idle (which isnt really anything new from the tiny D16Y7 engine)...and just the stuff i listed above...
I have tested the alternator and it is fine (thinking that perhaps the system was over loaded or something and it was cutting the a/c)...and then i was told that the system may need to be charged...but my question about that is that with 62,000 miles on the engine, isnt that a bit premature for it to need a refridgerant recharge?
Does this sound like a more serious problem with the compressor/condensor?
Thanks in advance for any help...

not to steal your thread, but i dont want to start another topic about my a/c problem. well when i had my stock motor in my cx my a/c worked fine cold and everything but after the motor swap my compressor doesnt even come on. now i dont have any freon (spelling i know) in the system now it some how leaked all out, but even if i donthave any freo in the system shoulnt the compressor still kick on when i turn the a/c on? i mean the a/c clutch doesnt even engage and usually when it does you can feel the car lose power and see your rpm's drop or rise depending you know? well i dont want to fill my freon up and full if i have a compressor problem because if it is then ill yank out a/c. any ideas ? do you guys think that if ther was freon in the system that the compressor would kick on?

No. If there isn't enough freon in the system, the compresser wont come on. There is a presure switch on the high side line.

ah a pressure switch?? damn i feel stupid lol. so your saying that since there is no pressure in the lines then the compressor is not kicking on and as soon as i get it refilled than the switch will detect pressure and will work?

I've been having the sam problem and still can't figure out whats wrong, The fan works when I hit the A/C button, how do you check if the pressure switch is working?

I would like to know aswell. I'll turn the A/C on and get a rise in the idle, but it won't cool down. I think I may have a leak. Anyway to test for leaks, too?

you have to get pressure gauges to test for leaks, obviously if its low then its leaking IF you got it recharged. I beleive they can also put a chemical in it that will show leaks.
Mine is not leaking, pressure is fine, Im just not getting power to the compressor. If i jump straight power to it it works fine, but its not getting power. I thought it was my AEM EMS but im not sure.

As long as there are no other problems.

Use an ohm meter to check for continuity.
