Default planning on these mods...comments/suggestions?

sup guys, i'm new here and am just beginning to mod my 99 gsr. here's a list of planned engine mods:

skunk2 intake manifold
64 mm throttle body
AEM 3" intake
toda spec b camshafts
toda cams
toda high life spring/retainers
port/polish
JDM ITR pistons and rods (planning on around 11.6:1 compression)
toda header
custom 2.5" exhaust w/ apexi N1 muffler
and of course get all of that tuned...

ok, now i'm kinda new at this. a lot of this is from surfing thru boards and friends comments and etc... my goal is to run around 200/205 whp. would i get it with those mods? also, since i'm running pretty hi compression, would i need a 1mm head gasket? and if so, wouldnt the thicker gasket lower the CR? and is it cool to run around 92 oct gas on this engine?
comments?

Definitely a nice setup. If i was going all motor I would do the same thing except i would get a Hitech header, and some kind of upgraded fuel pump and Fuel pressure regulator. Have fun.

I'm not positive with All Motor setups but 200whp sounds like a little much. I would say closer to 190.

But I'm not sure..

Hope you realize how much money and time this gonna take, I am right in the middle of my "planned setup", and all I've got is a ton of expensive sh*t sittin' in my apartment (IE spoon header, mugen exhaust, spoon cam gears, ITR valvetrain, ported GSR head w/ a port matched ITR intake manifold, RC injectors- spoon cams at the end of the month) by the way you should put a Quaife LSD, not to mention suspension set up, any exterior mods (OEM lip spoiler/JDM front clip) and interior mods... Damn I gotta find some more disposable income

i'd say put on a turbo.. it will cost less.. with good tuning and 7-8lbs you should be fine for a long time.. it seems that the car is semi new.. plus you'll be making much more power then you ever will all motor.. and this is a simple bolt on rather then tearing the motor down to rebuild for high CR..
just my opinion...

yea, but that 9300 rpm redline seems pretty enticing. i would go turbo...but if i do, i want to run 10+ boost. otherwise, the all motor setup is good enuff for me. and if i push higher boost, i dont want my engine to blow. IMO, honda engines are made to run all motor (nsx/s2k). either way, money is no problem for me. =D

9300 is a lot of rpm.. just because your running all motor don't think your safe from blowing up.

Hehe,

Let me tell you what. Turbo would be very sweet I'm sure. I do envy those guys, even though I've never ridden in a turbo Honda, I can only imagine the power. My car is still in break-in, and it feels great to me so far.

Very similar setup to ur plan. I have an ignition, but I wouldn't say it's def worth it.

Another thought is the whole tranny/clutch stuff.

I have USDM ITR tranny, KAAZ LSD, JDM FD, Spoon Flywheel, ACT clutch.

First, the Clutch is great, it grabs and is just very nice. No chatter or anything. It's a little stiff, but you get used to it. I know someone who has one for a good price if you're interested...

If you stay all motor, which sounds like it's your plan, def consider ITR gearing. It's sooooo nice. Remember how I'm still in break-in? My car is pretty quick, and I'm only revving to 5K! I also have the JDM FD which most people would prob consider a little too extreme, heh. Hey, I don't even have AC or PS, I'm hardcore, lol. Gearing works wonders for our little TQ deprived motors

LSD is just amazing for FWD. The KAAZ is scary as it breaks in. Make horrendous noises and whatnot. It's really starting to feel better, and I can actually feel it working now. I think it's very aggressive. I've driven a couple of cars with ITR LSD and the KAAZ is much more pronounced, even when going straight. KAAZ requires maintenance though, and with new cost of Quaife that may be a good alternative.

If you do it right, you should be able to get close to 200, maybe more.

Take care,

FB

Depending on how extreme you port/polish the head etc. you should be making more than 200whp. I was going to do this exact setup but well, money is an issue, and if it isn't now, it will be later. So I'm doing CTR cams instead. Just make sure you do the work yourself, because that's half the fun.

About the turbo, a 200whp NA powered car is usually a "quicker" ride having a slingshot powerband instead of a torquier turbo setup. Just ask Tony the Tiger.

I'd do turbo if I wanted 250whp+...

i agree.. it would kinda suck to spend 5gs and only boost 5.5 lbs.. safe.. i say screw that 50hp.. 10hp per 1K damn that aint worth it.. on the other hand invest 2K maybe 3K more.. and you will push 300whp with that same turbo for sure.. but then again.. that can blow too.. so many different things to consider gives me a headache.. hahaha

but anyhow i'll probaby go turbo on mine once funds allow it, for now i stay bone stock under the hood until i know exactly what i want.
