Default golden eagle blockguard clearences

Since i am boring and honing the block i gave my blockguard to a shop (comptech) to install and they said that it was slightly tight on one side and loose on another side. They said they wouldnt put it in but im not about to let $100 go down the drain because of a hunch. has anyone else had a problem with htis and can give some input on it.

he said that if he was to measure with a feeler guage he'd say about .002 between the cylinder sleeve and the blockguard. should i be worried about this or would it not be that big of a deal or should i send this blockguard back to GEM and demand a different one?

Just curious thanks

the blockguard should work. On the tight side, you need to sand it down a little so it should be a little loose. Boosted hybrid should be able to tell you.

sand down the inside or the outside? also, if it were forced in, say with a mallet, what could go wrong? also, how low should the blockguard sit? thanks.

if you forced it in with a mallet it would probably make your piston sleeves egg shaped. please tell me you didnt do that. if so you probably need a bore and hone

yes! if it doesnt fit with ease do not force it! i just went through that... mine was forced at cylinder 4 on a b16... once it was all put together the car kept smoking.... the cylinder was out of round... we had to take it all apart again and get it sleeved. the car drives awesome now going on 700 miles... but NOW im reading posts about golden eagle's sleeves sinking! ahhhhhhhh!

dont worry about ur GEM sinking. i read ur post and they just changed the way they install the sleeves + i just got my block from GEM today and it looks great, i called up Vince to let him know what a great job they did. he told me if i have ANY problems which i shouldnt he will help me out. and u said ur going on 700 miles, i wouldnt worry about them sinking. good luck

I could be worng ,but thats how i would do it.
