New Levon pix...could this be the smoking gun?...Old Guy?
I can't take credit for this idea as it came to me from a famous racer who can take credit for it here if he wants...
Check out the shock tower modification. This skirts the letter of the nhra rules. What would happen if there were some key hair line cracks to the shock tower area. I wish NHRA would ban this modification and perhaps even go with a 9" limit to tire width and maybe even add 50-100 more pounds to the car so this would not have to be done to save weight or run 28" talls. It should either be stock or a tube chassis.

For your info before the last race, Leevon was instructed to put his stock suspension mounts back on by NHRA.a lot of racers use this set-up, the ones that get caught are the ones everyone looks at funny. But the real fast cars have them.if i had the money maybe i might try it.have a nice day.

I would think any car going thru a decent tech inspection would get caught on this, however I don't think it is against the rules. I believe these "upfront" modifications are not checked in a cage certification for Quick Hot Rod. One cracked weld in the right spot could cause the car to pull under deceleration.

9"tire are for guy that make no power, the tubes up front help in a crash to suck up the inpack, they hit first like a soft wall.have you seen a top fuel car crash the tube up front suck up the speed, so the driver will not!

Is it illegal to "PLate" the top of the strut tower and weld the tubing to the plate?
It would still satisfy the rule of stock tower but it would be reinforced with the chassis. Or box in the entire tower itself and reinforce it with tubing.

They would kill off a lot of cars if they changed the rule...wait Laskey would still be able to run. I smell conspiracy!

i think that nhra should not say any things about tubs. no front wheel drives car out there will be able to clear 28x10.5 slicks. look at the kubos crash i think her slicks grew up and hited her frame. if she would of have tubs that wouldnt never happen. by the way my civic have tubs already done to it and if nhra bans it i think thats B.S 9" tires are for babys 10.5" for big boys
my car has the factory metal(all of it) and has 1/8 inch plates on the top of the tower for extra stiffness, as well as the front "stinger" coming off the a pillar and connecting to the framerail., nothing is cut off of my front end......
this is also something i would like to have looked at in more depth in the future...too much of these cars is being "hacked" off and its going to start showing..
saftey is not an option.
edit--- i ll try to post up some pics later in the week or possibly next week after i get my car back from the paint shop

how much longer do you expect before its running?
how much longer do you expect before its running?
a crack in the front bars would not make the car completly uncontrollable like leevon was, it might pull a little one way .Leevons car looked to me like something major was broke in either the rim or rear suspension. If you watch the video on espn2 about 5-10 ft before he hits the wall the tire shoots out in front of the car,im not assuming this if put it in slow mow its clear as day.So my conclusion is that the rim got hurt on the first pass when he corrected back into his lane then the second pass he went to brake and the car got a little sideways he corrected ,the rim broke and stayed inside the front end and as he got on the brakes harder only the right side brakes were working so the car pulled extremly hard to the right.something was definetly making the car get sideways but the main reason for the crash was the rim,im trying to get a hold of leevon .
2 months at the max beware team OBSESSION...sacramento going to come thru.............1 pro fwd and 1 hot rod also 1 pro all motor...........
