Default Running with the Type R's at Nelson Ledges

Hey everyone -

I took my new GSR sedan to Nelson Ledges in Ohio over the weekend for some fun laps...I was pleased to see a contingent of Type R's from PA there as well. Had some good times running around the track although I'm now jonesin' for some suspension mods.

Catch ya later,

- Markus

How's the track surface holding up out there.

I still remember my first time there on-track in an old Rabbit, .... and the 24 hr. races.

Yeah, D and I were out there as well, and a friend of ours who autocrosses in a hella fast GS-R made it too...the track was in much better shape than I had been lead to believe, it was a little patchy in places but there wasn't any debris and we had a beautiful day...here's a few pics, more will be up on s&m racing as soon as i play catchup...i've got 2 autoXs and a track day to make pages for, gah!

Had a blast, my first track event and it was fast, safe, and above all, fun. D was tearin up the track on his Kumhos, he was easily the fastest in the novice group by several seconds...I couldn't believe how at home the R felt on the track, they aren't kidding when they say race-car outta the box...brakes were a little worn at the end, not sure if it's glazed pads or boild fluid yet, brakes are pretty spongey (had Ford Motorcraft fluid, maybe didn't get all the old out, who knows). Aside from that, the car was totally at home for long stints of VTEC goodness...a friend with a very well prepped GS-R (accelrates EXACTLY like my R, has lots of suspension goodness) and I were well matched on our street tires, and by the end of the day we were running in the 1:28 range...D was down to 1:21 by our friends stopwatch clicking....can't wait to go back. Gotta get some better pads tho, maybe switch to Super-Blue. A stang went off track, and an advanced-group C4 vette had two run-ins with the tire wall, but on the whole a safe and fun-filled day....must...track...again...

ROAD RACING GOOD!!!

no front pads left whatsoever.

we both have a ton of in car video ( ~ 80 min worth ). documented me laying the smack down on stangs and the like.

i was hitting 120+ on the back (and actually was thinking about putting the cruise control on.... heh)

I NEED NOS. TWO OF EVERYTHING, BY TONIGHT!!!!

Glad you guys enjoyed it, and without incident.
Did D ever get the rest of the front brake ducting in?

1:21 and change is pretty much gettin-it out at Nelson's.

heh, yeah D was running with the pretty blue eyes, it's just high-quality masking tape. I had the darth vader bra with masking tape under big strips of black duct tape going on...

I think the Corvettes and 944 turbos used to qualify in the 1:19 - 1:20 range for the 24 hr race back in the late 80's, and a few years ago (several maybe), the winning ITS 240Z was running around 1:20 as well. Good Job!!

How's the track surface holding up out there.
I ran there last July and the surface has been patched and repatched in a lot of areas on the track which makes for a very bumpy ride. Especially when patches are in the corners, because it upsets the handling of the car. I would actually alter my line in a few turns to try to avoid some of the patches. I have run on two other tracks, Mid Ohio and Putnam Park, and the surface is extremely nice and smooth in comparision to Nelson Ledges.

Now if would be resurfaced it would be an amazing track, because the layout is nice and it is fast. It's not a real technical track but it is a fun track to drive.

I personally would not go back because of the roughness of the surface. I guess I have been spoiled by Mid Ohio and Putnam Park.

It's easy enough to get spoiled by nice road surfaces.
I'm not sure if they'll EVER actually "repave" Nelson's.

BTW, do they have flush toilets, for the men, yet? hahaha

Heh, yeah, real plumbing in the mens room, and a sign that read "Please don't put cigarettes in the toilet, we don't pee in your ashtray"

I found the surface to be pretty nice, compared to what i'd heard...certianly not a constant-pave, but much better than the roads around here. You guys are spoiled, it teaches you to adjust (stock ITR suspension seemed quite competent over the surface, but the stiffer the springs, the harder i imagine it would be)

Hey, glad you guys had a good time....if I could get any vid of you guys lapping my GSR I'd appreciate it.

Nelson's was kinda rough but I didn't think too bad, I'd definately go back. I mean, Mid-Ohio would be schweet but don't think I could get on as easily/cheaply as Nelsons.

Did you put those holes in where the front lip spoiler is connected to the car? Right below the bumper lights.
