They are blaming this on aftermarket parts!!!
I have a metal hitting metal/rattling noise coming from near the passenger side wheel. It sounds as if the heat shield might or a bolt might be loose. The noise only happens at 3,500 RPMS and higher at slight gas depression.
I had the problem last summer and the dealer fixed it telling me it was the heat shield. It happened again and they told me it was a bolt rusting off on the catalic converter. Now the noise is back. However, they are telling me it the ground control coilovers I just put on (even though the noise was there 2 weeks before they were installed).
The dealer will not look at my car until I take off the ground control on that side and replace it with the stock spring. They say they are sure that the noise is coming from the ground controls. In an amplified sound test they did, I did hear it coming the loudest from the strut area. They replaced the strut and it did no good. What could this noise be? Would I hear a heat shield rattle from the right side of the car? Could it be something in my trasmission? I have a DC sports short throw.
I don’t want to pay someone to change out the springs if I don’t have to. I’m almost certain it can’t be the coilovers. HELP!

your best bet is trying to solve the problem by yourself jack the car up and inspect the heat shield the slightest smallest crack will rattle like crazy
it kinda sucks dealership void your warranty basically cause its lower.....its one of the benefits of having a modified car jk

Mine did the same thing and I called them up and said
"My heatshield is rattling like crazy, will I have any problems if I took them off?"
"No"
At first it was that heatshield that goes over the exhaust pipe then my catalytic headshield started so I took them both off. No problems and it's been a year. Just don't park over a dry leaf pile or anything.

i hate to say this, but put back on your stock parts before you take it to the dealer.
dealers are notorious for blaming **** on your "modifications" even if they are as simple as a red honda badge. and u can't blame them, because they're trying to make money, and doing warranty work doesn't exactly do that for them. also, to get out of warranty work, they will look for somethin else to blame first. i mean, why should they want to fix your car for free when there are 100's of others, lining up willing to pay?
sorry to spring the bad news on yah, bro, but please put back your stock parts before you take it back to the dealer. otherwise, take it to a good quality shop and have another mechanic look at it.
don't give the dealer any chances to make excuses. hope that helps, and good luck

Yes you can blame them. That is part of being a dealer, servicing warranty issues. I understand them trying to make money. I don't care. Good ones will service your warranty issues no questions asked.

Yes, they should want to fix your car, even if they aren't making money on it. If you keep a customer happy they will continue to come back after their warranty is up and they will come back when they want another car. They don't lose money on it. They just aren't making any.

Be a bit more open minded and realistic...
In all fairness, if you were a dealership and a customer modified a car you sold them only to have it brought back for you to diagnose and fix...
Regular garages have the same problem fixing other garage's mess ups'. I know my body shop has recieved work from other shops who do a low grade job. That's what you get when you go on the cheap. Everyone wants a deal... they just sit back to realize they are one of two people: the ones who get breaks in life, and others complain about not getting them. heheh

The problem with this is that it is a warrantied problem. I still have 2,000 miles left on the header and the exhaust. Nothing there has been modified. They won't look until I change the one spring out. They are convinced it is coming from there. I don't want to pay to have something done that should be covered under warranty.
Is it at all possible that this noise could be coming from the Coilovers? I can't image it is, but I could be wrong. I do only hear it coming from the inside the car on the passenger side on wheel well. Wouldn't I hear the exhuast and header from near the middle of the car?
I appreciate your help guys. The feedback has been great.

I have the same rattle too i have a simple fix for it. Turn your radio up!
mines coming from the exhaust silencer resonating tho. Also my exhaust hits my bumper and it rattles there too. The guy I bought it off had it modified to fit an LS and its bent a little too far up. I will get around to fixing it one day

jack ur car up and use a broom stick and tap on the cat and b-pipe heatshields, I can almost guarentee it is one of the 2.

According to the law, they have to prove it was directly caused by the aftermarket part for them to void your warranty. I think this law is a little different from state to state.

i'm a tech at acura. he's right......we make fractions of an hour to locate noises so we hate warranty work. and when it comes back for the same problem, the shop gets bad C.S.I. scores so aftermarket products are to blame. Aftermarket products are not always the problem, but many kids come back with broken parts trying to get us to warranty it when its clear that its the customers fault. So we just deny any cars with aftermarket parts.

there are many factors that dealerships can deny warranty work with aftermarket products. it can vary from emissions to factory spec funtions. i'm not trying to be a pain but the techs at my work resent my car. i'm the only tech at my dealership that values aftermarket products.
