I am looking into an EF (1988-1991) Civic hatchback SI.... want to know if all had drum brakes in the rear.. OR did the later ones have 4 wheel disc brakes.... anyone who has the car, or knows FOR SURE... because i have heard both ways from people who are 'pretty sure'... Looking to buy one within the week.. and am very curious about this.

I am FOR SURE that all 1988 - 1991 Civic HB have rear drums. the only ones that came with rear disc is the 90-91 crx si, and i think the wagon and maybe the 4 door ex

 

NOT the ED 4 door EX .... ever... for sure.

 

i have an 89 civic si and bought a 90 civic si and both have rear drums.

 

I'm pretty sure the rear disc setup on the civic si was optional? though, I am a moron, so I could be wrong.

 

I have never seen any 88-91 Civic hb's with a rear disk setup from the factory.
