Disabling SRS
does anyone know how to make the dummy resistor that Mugen uses so that it is possible to change the steering wheel on a Prelude because i would like to change my Civic's wheel. i just dont want to take it out because i still want the functionality of the passenger side airbag and also want the option of putting the stock wheel back in.. anyone?
you don't need to disable anything really, just make sure when you pull your SRS steering wheel, make sure you follow the wiring to the srs plugs and unplug them, dont cut anything. You will still have your passenger side active, and your srs light will be on, but you can take out your cluster and unplug the light if it bothers you.
As long as your plugs are intact you can always plug it all back in, then go to a dealer and have the srs reset.

This can be done by by any of us. The procedure has been posted I believe. If not, I can.

Here is some information regarding a resistor being used to disable SRS. I am quite curious myself what type of resistor this is.

And some more I found on a cached page somewhere:
"Also, I haven't figured out how to keep the SRS tell tale from lighting up. I don't want to simply remove the bulb, because I want to keep the passenger airbag functional. The airbag unit only uses two wires, I'm guessing that I could connect the two wires with a variable resistor. I could then change the resistance values until the CPU believes there is an airbag in place. Once I find the correct resistance value I can replace it with a fixed value resistor. Any airbag and/or electronics experts out there think this will work?"
and
"From reading discussions about other cars, you can connect a shorting resistor (my '93 Honda even includes them in the harness for testing...) across the airbag connector to simulate the bag to the computer. The problem is that the resistance values are usually only 1-3 ohms or something on that order - very small. You don't want to measure the resistance of the airbag itself, because the voltage of you meter may be enough to set off the bag..."

I just did some checking in the Eletrical Troubleshooting Manual for the 96-00 Civic. Looked up the wiring schematic for the SRS system. Ironically enough, it appears that the Canadian vehicles don't have a passenger side air bag, and the diagram shows a "dummy resistor" in place.
On a side note... I remember seeing what appeared to be an "air bag tray" in our parts catalog. I thought that was a JDM only part. Well, if the cars in Canada use no pass. side air bag, they must have a tray in place. Not sure how hard it would be to get access to Canadian Honda parts.

After doing some reading in service bulletins regarding SRS troubleshooting. For troubleshooting, there is a special tool called a "2 OHM JACK" to be used to simulate an airbag.
Also, in the troubleshooting, for Canadian models without the passenger side airbag, it states that if the resistance of the dummy resistor is NOT between 1.5 OHM and 2.5 OHM, the resistor is faulty and to replace.
It would be my guess that you can simulate the airbag by using a 2 OHM resistor in between the 2P SRS connector.
