How to clean foam air filter?
K&N or Uni filter cleaner. Should be able to get it at most motorcycle shops, and many performance shops. Spray it on, and rinse from the inside out. They will also have the oil for re-oiling. The K&N comes as a kit with both, but I'm not sure if you want to use K&N oil for the foam element though. Probably better off with the Uni-filter oil.
hey, i have a spoon filter also, i just use water to clean it, but its not working very well, and I didn't re-oil it after the wash. Do we need to reoil it? I don't think Spoon's one is pre-oil, so I guess we don't need to re-oil it after wash. Please correct if I am wrong.
It is never a bad idea to oil the filter! After all, if the filter is not kept oiled, it will dry and start falling apart (not too good for your engine to inhale that!).
Call up comptech and order their foam filter oil/cleaner kit. About $10.

Pre-oiled just means you don't have to oil it the first time, but the oil is doing most of the work as far as filtering is concerned so you'd better re-oil after you wash out the dirty oil! as mentioned before, always rinse from the inside out so you don't pack the filth further into the filter. Uni makes most foam filter applications (comptech etc), grab a big can of cleaner and oil and be done with it.

Yep, the oil is what does the filtering, moreso than the foam itself.
Another thing is, plan on letting that foam AIR DRY for a while after washing (maybe as much as 1hr). ie; don't do it right before you are going somewhere...

Don't use the K&N cleaner or oil on foam filters. You should use something more appropriate like ITG filter cleaner and "oil". You'll find that for foam, they don't use oil. They use a very tacky synthetic substance.
Do a yahoo search on ITG and cleaning. Should turn something up.
