Default Does anyone know for SURE when the RSX-R comes out?

I read through posts, and some people say one year, some people say two years... Does anyone know for sure? If I buy an RSX-S in the next few months, would it be hard to trade for an R next year, or two years, whenever they come out, or should I just wait?

Thanks

Just test drove an RSX Type-S (nice little luxury car), and the salesman said the R would be out for 2004.

In thinking things out. I think the CTR would have a better chance of coming than the RSX-R. IF you think about it and use Honda's logic of thinking, the CTR would be a better choice for market-ablitity since the RSX-S is already here.

Boba- who hopes that they bring BOTH!

Never count on salesman.....they don't know ****.
Just go to 2 or 3 different dealerships and ask the same questions to the salesman.....you will never get the same answer from them.

Try the hardest you can to find an existing R.
The chance for the New R to come is extremely low.
Like Boba said, we have type S, and they don't. So,
they get the R and we dont'. doesn't make sense
to have Type S and Type R at the same time. agreed?
If the existing RSX is called GSR, I would say it will
come for sure, but since we have a TYPE S, we won't
get another car called "TYPE whatever", WHICH MAKES
perfect sense. The dealer is BSing you, never trust
a dealer, they dont' know anything.

Trust me, if you get the RSX type S, you will regret
for the rest of your life becaues the RSX-R just won't
come.

Believe me, even if the R doesn't come, how much more will it cost to import one?

$30K? $40K? who cares...if you want one, might as well get the real deal.

But they are bringing over the Civic SI hatch, so if they do think this way we might not get either one.

ILOVERACING makes a good point. Come on people - Honda will not ignore the US market. Saying that they won't bring two Tegs with "Type" in their names is stupid - so why did they bring an Integra GS-R AND a Type R for the gen3? Anyone who buys the RSX Type R will know the difference between the Type-S and the Type-R. I've said this time and time again - with the Skyline, the Z, the WRX Sti all coming, why wouldn't we get the new ITR? I'd even venture a guess that we get more than 500 in the first year.

in car and driver this month (august) they said it would be here in about 2 years. I would not wait, since they dont have plans yet. Until it is announced from honda, then figure at least 2 years

I'd say more like 5000 of them.

We are getting the Si Hatchback, and the current R has done very well here, so I would definitely expect to see the R here in North America. It's just a matter of WHEN... THAT remains to be seen.

Time will prove, I still think that it won't come. It's just a marketing strategy. It's not like we have many enthusiast here and they will
bring the car in. Many other things are involved when importing
a new car. It just make perfect sense that Honda won't make 2 car
in the same category and name one "type whatever" and "type whatever"
plus remember, we have RSX here and Japan has integra.

Not bringing the type R doesn't mean honda is ignore the market.
I for sure think that HOnda will make more money if they don't bring
the Type R, because people will first buy the RSX type S and then import
the type R parts from japan and honda will make way more money
on that because no labour is involved. Also, saying "Skyline, STI will
come, therefore, type R will" is stupid and it doesn't work that way in
the car insdustry.

I disagree. They're already telling their dealers it will be here.

Of course not. Just like they would never sell one car named "NSX" and another car named "RSX".

I for sure think that HOnda will make more money if they don't bring
the Type R, because people will first buy the RSX type S and then import
the type R parts from japan and honda will make way more money

I for sure disagree, because the people who market and sell Honda cars here (American Honda) don't make any money on the parts that are sold in Japan, and the JDM parts that are brought over are a drop in the bucket compared to the number of parts they could sell here themselves.

Also, saying "Skyline, STI will
come, therefore, type R will" is stupid and it doesn't work that way in
the car insdustry.
Of course, we all know that car companies don't watch what their competition is doing...

I agree with Boba in that bringing the CTR over makes more sense. Not that they will, but they should. It's amazing that they gave us the ITR at all, since Acura is supposed to be a luxury nameplate, and they've fixed that now with the RSX-S. IMO it would be odd to have a Type S and a Type R -- I mean the sales guys are typically confused enough as it is. My guess is that IF they bring it over, they'll call it something else. I say bring the CTR over for a while since we've never had it, and we'll start the whole debate again in 5 years.

Even if the RSX-R does come, we're probably going to have the detuned version of it. I think compression on the new R is high 11's or low 12's; something like that. Remember Japan has higher octane fuel and the R only pumps out 220 hp. The RSX Type S has something like 11.0:1 compression and 200 hp; thats pretty high compression for a car in the states. So even if the new R does come; its probably going to be detuned for emissions and its not even worth buying one.

I am so tired of all of this. You realize that some marketing guy who works for Honda is sitting in his office laughing at how they make us look like women in a hair salon talking about various JDM "rumors" and what not.

Forget this, I am going to move to Japan and buy the car all the Japanese kids are talking about on the Japanese import boards; the Mustang Cobra R.

I can see the conversations already:

Yuu: I hear they are bringing the Taurus SHO to Japan in 2003.
Ginta: No, no. It's all rumors. But Ford is definately bringing over the Mustang Cobra R in 2004, they are just having problems getting it to pass emissions requirements.

nsxtasy, thanks for backing me up.

citanest - the name thing doesnt hold water. Toyota made the Celica GT. Did that prevent them from making the GT-S? Certainly not. The CTR will never come, because people would buy the CTR instead of the Civic Si and RSX Type-S. Honda is not blind. They saw how much response the Integra in general, but especially the Type-R, got from enthusiasts. And I will continue to maintain that the Japanese manufacturers are engaging in a push to bring more of their affordable high-performance models over here. It started with the first ITR, continued with the WRX, and these two are just the tip of the iceberg. Why would Honda miss the opportunity to bring the R over here? The RSX has been designed with the US market in mind, bringing the R here is a proven success and would not cost them very much money. I am sure that the decision to bring it here was made a long time ago. Think positively! There is no reason AT ALL that Honda would decide NOT to bring it. Think about it.

Of course they're going to bring it, but not right away. They're not going to import a brand new car while admitting that they're going to make it obsolete in another year or two. When we got the del Sol Si they never said we'd get the VTEC. When we got the 160 horse Lude they never said we'd get the VTEC. When we got the 2g GS they never said we'd get the GS-R.

...and I hardly think that a detuned 220hp car would be "not worth it". If we were only buying cars based on engines we'd all be driving Z28s.

I just think that there are way too many signs that they won't bring it, that's all. I don't understand why they have to create the stupid type S
here and not bringing in the type R right away and have to wait a few
years. Also, type S is a down grade version of the R, there is no type S
in Japan, only the 160 HP regular integra or the integra type R. They don't
bring it either because of emission problems or because of some other reasons which we dont' know. So, we'll see. I am trying to be optimistic too but all these signs just give me the impression that it won't come. :<

Honda is not blind. They saw how much response the Integra in general, but especially the Type-R, got from enthusiasts.
At our national NSX Club event, NSXPO 2000, I spoke at length with the fellow from Acura HQ in Torrance who is the product planner for the ITR and for the NSX (which is why he was there). I can assure you that the folks in Torrance are well aware, not only of the enthusiasm for the Type R, but also of the enthusiasm for ALL of Honda's performance models, and the whole import tuning craze.

Also keep in mind that, for the most part, the ITR flew out of dealer showrooms, with most sales taking place around MSRP - some slightly below, and some slightly above, while the other models of Integra were plentiful and generally sold for a pretty good discount from MSRP. What dealer in his right mind wouldn't be begging for more of the same? And when they get pressure like that from the dealers, the marketers put the same kind of pressure on the factory to send them the product to fill those requests.
