can a d series alt be used with a b series motor?
what mounts are you suing... if you can't get it to work (the B series) then something is wrong..
But yes you can fit a d series one... Just gotta do a little moddin.. actually.. if you have the cast upper alternator bracket then you probably can't do it..

This is what we had to do on my ls swap went to autobarn and got a smaller belt and it worked fine just get a smaller belt and give it a try they are only 5 bucks so I would give that a try before going out and buying a new alternator
I am pretty sure the d-series will not work

you also need to swap out the pulley on the d alternator for a b series, d pulley has two ribs and b one has three.
