Type R vs RSX Type S
This Saturday night a friend of mine (who happens to be a top salesman for a local Acura dealership) was able to get a RSX Type S for the night.... We hit a few local car shows to see what people though of it and so on. I met him at the first show in my R and before we left for the next show we talked about the RSX S vs. Type R and the recent magazine tests of 6.1 0-60 and 14.8 quarter mile....Pretty impressive we agreed but we both wanted to know which would come out on top. All the salesman at Acura say its as fast or faster than the R since the magazine article came out. On the way to the next show we lined up on a dead side street and ran three times (Yes I know street racing is bad, thats why we found a dead street) the outcome was the same each time...by third gear the R had him by 2.5 to 3 car lengths and was still pulling away hard. We tried all different starts, launches, and rolling starts....still the same outcome...R on top by a large margin. My R only has 7000 miles on it and the only mods are Comptech Ice box and a N1 catback....from the numbers the magazine review gave we thought it would be a much better race.....I guess people who still want performance will have to wait for the new R to come over next year. Just though everyone would want to know how the RSX S stacked up to our cars.
to ITR.
The only question is if the RSX-typeS will get a bit faster with more miles... just like ITR's do. I mean that RSX-S didn't have more than 500 miles right? Also, I think RSX-S isn't too shabby if it didn't lose until the 3rd gear... I know that G3 GS-R's get left behind long before the ITR's hit 3rd gear. Man, if RSX-R ever comes out it'll be romping the current ITR.
Each time we raced every gear was worth about one car length....by the end of first there was a one car length difference, by the end of second two cars, etc...... I'm sure they will get faster with time this one had about 400 miles on it.
Got to drive the RSX over the weekend and although I will say it is a nice car, that is all it is. A Nice car. I got back in the R and thought DAMN this is a DRIVERS car... the RSX is very smooth the R is Raw, they are almost like comparing apples to oranges. Only similarity is the Maker. I also go to take out a WRX and all I can say is DAMN that car is fast. Handling is sub par but for a quiet family type car that can REALLY move it was pretty nice. The Momo steering wheel is very cool and the seats are very comfortable. The car I test drove got sold while we were test driving it! OH and on the Type S the bose RICHBASS subwoofer... it does pratically nothing. I like the new A/C controls tho... very nice. See again I come back to it being a Nice car. Anyhow just my two cents. But the one thing that was odd was that I was confused by the 6 speed trannny! I'm cruising around thinking I'm in 5th and I am and then realize I got one more to go... that's nice for highway. All in all a very smooth nice car. The R a very course, race bread, raw race car. Hope to see an R version of the RSX but time will tell.
The RSX-S I test drove just didn't feel all that fast. Definitely not 6.1 sec fast. I mean it wouldn't be the first time a manufacturer gave a magazine a "special" vehicle for testing.
