Default What is your experience with headers and stock cams?

I have seen charts on Dynocenter that the gains are minimal like less than 5 whp. What is your experience?

I'm running stock cams and let me tell ya, the difference with the Toda header is unreal. I can really feel the car pull hard in the midrange; more so than I had expected. Though I'll most likely be installing Spec B's soon, I'm extremely happy with my setup currently. Hopefully some other people on the board will have some plots to display for you.

Does the TODA header come with a 2.5 inch flange?

With stock cams, I disagree with the fact that there will be a huge difference for different 2.5" collector headers. The difference will be
minimal and not noticeable. But with Toda Cam or Jun Cam, the difference
for better headers will become more obvious.

I mean the difference between stock header and any 2.5 inch header with stock cams and test-pipe.

Huh? What makes you say that? You're telling me you won't notice the difference between the restrictive, heavy, stock header and a Toda header with 2.5 collector? I think you need to investigate a little more before staking that claim. My R is a daily driver and yes, there is a HUGE difference with the Toda header compared to the stock setup. I agree the difference will be more noticable with cams, but come on

I have to agree with Lord Vader on this one.

After installing my Spoon one piece with a 2-1/2" Cat (modified B pipe) I can say without question my car pulls harder between 3000 and 7000 RPM.

I don't think there was much gained above that as side by side pulls with stock R's hasn't revealed much improvement up top. Pulls from down low clearly show my car pulling significantly harder! 2-3 Cars from 2000RPM through 2nd gear!!!

Perhaps CAMs might improve the top end where the stock cams stop breathing efficiently?

Oh yeah, I'm still running on stock fuel curves. The VAFC is coming soon!

Regards,

Hey Baby NSX, what did you modify on your B-pipe? Both bottlenecks or only the first one?

I don't know about Baby NSX, but my exhaust is now bottleneck free. It's not stock anymore though. I'm currently running a Tanabe Racing Medallion catback. The Tanabe eliminated two of them, while the SMSP adapter eliminated the final bottleneck

Why would you remove the final bottleneck only. The first one is easy to remove. I think the first one (cat) more important, right?

There are three restrictive bottlenecks in the stock catback including the axle-back. The adapter from SMSP eliminated the bottleneck near the cat, while the Tanabe took care of the other two. Hopefully that answers your question. I'll be on the dyno this weekend and will post before and after plots of the restrictions being removed.

I can't wait! I have heard that the bottleneck near the Cat is the most important one because the exhaust gas has the highest energy there.

heavy stock header is not 2.5" you fool!

I said I am comparing all "2.5 inches" aftermarket header with stock
cams

I have just modified the B-pipe nearest the cat. I'm currently looking for a full 2.5" system.

My, my, how easily some get offended. There's no need to name call I think you missed an adjective in my earlier post. I said RESTRICTIVE, ie: 2.25" collector. Sorry, I didn't realize I had to be that specific.

There is a small misunderstanding here. My question was not very clear. But what I mean is the difference between stock header and any 2.5 header......

Euro~

I understood your question perfectly, as did Baby NSX I believe. As I stated earlier, I can feel a huge difference in the midrange

I agree with Garth VadeR... Going from a stock, cast iron 2.25 inch Type R exhaust manifold (that specific enough for y'all?) to a JDM 4-1 2.5" header + 2.5" cat netted significant improvements in midrange. Good enough for my untuned butt dyno to register, at least. Throw in a cold-air intake (I'll let y'all argue this one out) and a V-AFC and you have good power out of straight bolt-on parts.

I noticed that the inside diameter of the stock header is only 45 mm (1.75 inch) !!!!

Yesh - beer will be consumed en masse. I can't wait - should be loads of fun. Must speak to Jackal about the roller situation.

And yes, any and all corruption of your user name was purely intentional

Euro - Just picked up on the non-US Type R situation... Did your car not come with the true 4-1 header standard? I thought only US cars had the cast iron exhaust manifold...

Hey Darth Vader or anybody else would know...Is the Tanabe B-Pipe same length as the stock ITR b pipe? Right now I'm running Racing Medallion Exhaust and it's too loud for me. I want to replace it with something that is not too loud. Other mods AEM CAI,JDM header,Adrian Teo Hiflow Cat.

I think our exhaust system is the same as the US version.
