Default Thieves: Read

To non-thieving HT members, I apologize in advance for what I'm going to say here.

After one attempted theft in February, I'm paranoid, so I'm careful with keeping my car locked up. Today I come out to my car, everything is good and fine, I open the glovebox and notice that my owner's manual is unzipped. I know for a fact it was zipped when I left it, so I open it up to find my insurance card and registration missing. Some little bitch broke into my car and stole it, with the intention of either tracking me to my house, or of getting a key made to either get in easier or to actually drive it away. I was unaware until today that it was possible to get a copy made, even if you had the registration, without a corresponding driver's license. I won't go into the details here of how it can be done, but it can, and apparently without much difficulty. After talking with the Acura dealer, I can get the car rekeyed all the way around, with a new immobilizer, but it'll cost $750. I know I can do the labor myself, but I'm not sure if it involves reprogramming the immobilizer or what, which I wouldn't be able to do.
Anyway, back to the point, to the thieves here, and I'm sure there are a few:
I'm tired of this ****. If I catch you breaking into my car, I will beat the **** out of you, break your arms and legs, and tie you naked to a stoplight in the most populated area I can find. Then I'll make an anonymous phone call to the cops. I'm no longer concerned with the repercussions of the law. If you are willing to go there, so will I. Stop being little bitches, get a job, and leave everyone's **** alone. Do I come in your house and screw your woman? No. I mind my own damn business. So quit being pussies, keep your goddamn hands to yourself, and do everyone a favor by jumping off the nearest 10-story building, you stupid ******* cowards.

With that said, I might be looking to buy another car, because I'm tired of worrying whether my car will be there in the morning or not. I'm thinking E36 M3, turbo Impreza 2.5RS, or an RX7. Opinions are welcome. Street and track driving, I can't afford two cars.

Moderators, I apologize, I tried my best to tone down the anger for the masses.

It's sad that you have come to see what owning an ITR can be like.

I would not want to deal with the garbage that comes with daily driving an ITR in areas where it garners attention.

An E36 M3 would make for a nice replacement.

damn, that sucks. It's pretty weird that he broke in but didn't take the car then, it's easy enough to do.

as least you still have the car. I keep my insurance card and registration in my wallet, you may want to consider doing that as well.

It seems creepy to me, because it seems as if the thief is positive that he can take the car and he will do so when it is convenient for him.

I'm not sure either why he decided not to take it, although maybe I got back just in time while he was out getting the key made. I will now be keeping my registration and insurance on my person, I'm not going to take a chance with this crap again.

of the 92(at the time of me typing this) hits on this thread so far, I wonder how many are theives.

I dont blame you for wanting to get something different. My ITR has been a victim as well and was seriously contemplating swapping everything into a hatch to be less obvious. good luck and keep an eye on her.

I dunno what you`re worried about, Reid. If they jack your car yo know it`s in like a one mile radius. You can`t go a mile without hitting water

Btw, I`ll be there in July. Get ready....

I feel your pain man.

I would say go look at an BMW E30 M3 (88-91) as a very similar car to your Type-R. The two main differences are that it would be RWD and that it's theft rate is virtually zero.

Goto http://www.s14.net for more info on the car that is basically the RWD version of a Type-R. They sell from $10,000 for clean ones to as high as about $20,000 for mint 2.5 liter (250+ N/A HP) Evo engines ones.

PS: I love Type-R's and am in no way trying to push you onto an E30 M3. Just a suggestion.

I would go with the E36 if I were you.

It's a shame that we all need to be so paranoid.

I had considered an E30, and I do like it's characteristics (lightweight, NA, good balance, etc.), but the cost of maintenance after talking to a few people seems not worth it. I could get an E36, which would be a more comfortable car I think, for just a little more, and not worry about having problems associated with a 15 year old car. If I could find one cheap enough in mint condition, I'd consider it, but the chances of that happening aren't too likely.
Meanwhile, no one seems to like the turbo Impreza. The only reason I consider it is for the awd in the winter (M3 + snow = no good), and the 0-60 of 4.5 sec or whatever. Otherwise, suspension would have to be changed, brakes, maybe transmission...sounds like it's M3 + another winter beater time, if I sell the R.

Try looking around.

The prices of E36 M3s on the used market are very reasonable.

Get 2.5RS. You don't have to worry about that car anywhere.

Or, get a '94 MR2. Those a fun cars, but hard to find for that model year.

I'm going to start looking for beamers. As for the 2.5RS, I do like it, but to get it to where I want, a lot of work would have to be done. Granted, I haven't owned one, but I've driven a few, and they're just too damn slow. The M3 on the other hand is a pretty complete package, like the R. A little heavy for my taste, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. As for the MR2, I prefer front engine, I just feel more comfy with the weight of the engine in the front, I can feel the weight shifting more. Whatever the case, one more strike for both the Impreza and MR2, I'm a NA guy, I just like that linear power delivery. I've heard good things about the AVO turbo (which is what I'd get), but no matter what, I don't see it being quite as good. We'll see, I'm still trying to think about what to do. So much for my dreams of track-beginnings in the R...

My car was broke into not to long ago, they stole my cd player, my skunk 2 type r shift ****, and my full size spare from my second set of stockies( those are 200 a piece at the junkyard)!! They didn't leave a scratch on the car thank god, but now im down about $500 in things i had..sigh...thieves are cowards.

Edit:Oh and if you want a track/street car rx-7 is not a good choice unless you've got a nice job good luck

I'd take an M3 over a 2.5RS. Although, I rode in a 2.5RS-T. Thats right, this guy dumped 7 grand total into turboing it (turbo kit, clutch, guages, TEC2 standalone, tuning, etc). Running 9psi safely on stock internals, I went for a ride and HOLY CHIT!!! That was awesome fast. Supposely it should be running high 12's. The best part was how quiet it was (except when he shot 4 foot flames). If you find a good deal on a 2.5RS add 7 grand for turboing it and you'll have an awesome car.

Funny how many of us are thieves in here. Maybe none of us actually bought our cars. We just continually steal them from each other.

I got a theft threat on my R recently. Supposedly have been tailed back to my house. If they have the guts to come down my 1000ft dirt driveway and get past my barking dogs I will try my best to physically harm them to the fullest extent.

Either that or I would let them steal it and put everthing in some hatch. After I collected the insurance money for the R I would go steal the hatch from them. Use the insurance money for another R and use "my" hatch as a beater.
