Tint: Attracts cuious thieves or keeps content hidden
Recently, a friend of mine and I had a discussion on whether or not to tint windows.
The question was:
Does window tinting help prevent people from looking into your car and seeing what's inside?
OR.
Does window tinting attract would-be thieves thinking that the vehicle is hiding something (thus the tint).
My car that had tint had been broken into, but the car w/o tint never did. Same car, btw. Just curious.

I think it depends on how your car looks on the outside. I think it's better than un-tinted glass that they will just pass and see everything.
I think you and youre friend are discussing apples and oranges. Your dialogue should be "and" rather than "or".
Does tint prevent people from looking inside your car? Not really. If your tint is 35%ish, you are still able to put your nose up to the glass or see through the front windshield during the day. It offers privacy but its not a gated garage.
Does tint attract thieves? Do nice shoe laces make the shoe? The car itself will attract thieves. Everything you add to the car other than tint would be more questionable since it could be stripped from the car. People dont steal cars to take the tint. It could be possible that your car is an easy target, and tint may keep the guy hidden when he's trying to jack it.
These are topics are rather general and unthoughtout. I hope you and your friend figure things out. Good luck

Actually, it is thought out.
Hypothetically, if I see two identical vehicles one with tint, one without, what will my train of thought be.... the tint on the vehicle may be concealing something that may be of interest to me.
I don't know how the mind of a car-thief operates, so I can only speculate.
That is the reason why I had asked the question.
PS. You are right.. 35% is not limo tint, and although not as transparent as non-tint, still does offer relatively easy visibilty under sunlight.

It's funny you should say this. Not many people at all realize that most tint contains metal such as titanium. The microwaves sent out by the proximity sensor don't often penetrate the tint at all.

Where I'm from, there are two types of theives(sp). One would be simply a little teenager (my age) who wants nothing of the ride but for joyriding. And the other would be one who needs money. Although the tint does attract little attention, i highly doubt it will keep the theives(sp) away from a car that they have their eyes on, tint or no tint. So there is still a chance you will get "jacked".
Yes i know everything i've said is obvious, but oh well
If this does not make sense
on me. I dont know how else i can clarify my opinion.

Everyone in AZ has tint, it's a ******* necessity here, not a fashion statement or theft deterrent.
Tint helps keep your car cooler in the summer, and saves your interior also.
