Default y1 vs s1 tranny???

I just picked up my B16a yesterday.. The tranny They gave me was an s1 what are the major differnced between the S1 and the Y1? I know the second gear and the final drive are different on the S1 but what does that mean for my performance and driving overall??
oh and will the alternator off of my HF fit on the B16?
Thanks

altenator? i don't think so, but i could be wrong. as far as the trannies are concerned the s1 is better in my opinion. it is identical to the usdm itr tranny. your gas mileage will be a little worse, but that is the price you pay for performance.

In case you have not seen this http://tiiite.b16a.com/Bgears.htm
I have a y1 in my B16 Crx. I am going to change it out for a s1 hopefully soon. The ys1 is the ultimate drag tranny, but too steep for my street car. My car is almost stock and I get about 25-30 city highway with the y1.

S1/J1 are essentially the same transmissions. One came from an Integra RSi and the other came from the Integra XSi, but they have identical ratios.

S1 transmission will rev a lot higher during everyday driving. Especially on the highway. Worse for mileage, but a lot more peppy.

BTW, I have an S1 transmission.

CAN it be used with an FI setup? Sure. If you're planning to use a blower or turbo, swap an LS FD in there. The gears will still be close but you'll give the turbo more time to spool up. Stick with a short FD for nitrous or NA.
