Default Crank Pulley

When my car is at idle, my crank pulley is wobbling slightly and my car makes a screeching noise. We made sure it's tight and all belts are okay. Under acceleration, it straightens out and the noise goes away. Anyone else have this problem or any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

sounds like the pulley is bad. The rubber dampening has worn out more than likely. Their shouldn't be any wobble at all ever.

Did you ever do any work or anything that required you to remove the crank pulley? You may want to check it again and replace it if it is wobbling, how many miles do you have on it?

No work has been done that would require the removal of the pulley. It has 50,100 miles on it.

hrm... The crank pully should be stable and wobble free. That would make me nervous that it shakes.

Do you realize that the nut on the crank pully is probably one of the hardest nuts to bust (no pun just cause ludegyrl is hot) on the Honda Motor? If not THE hardest?

I've seen pully's that have been chipped, damaged, broken etc, and they will STILL run and idle straight and true.

BTW... nice sig quote. Ahhh... what I'd give to be in Key West with a beautiful woman right now shopping at Margaritaville and tanning on the beach.

My advice is have someone look at it. Make sure it's on tight, make sure everything behind it is on correctly. No loose bolts, nuts etc.

Yeah... I've had like 4 different people check it out and everything is in place and tight. It worries me as well that it is shaking like it is.

Oh what I wouldn't give to be sipping on some margaritas and tanning on the beach right now.

You drive, I'll ride. I'll even do you the favor of rubbing you with suntan lotion... or oil, your choice.

I think you should have someone take the crank pully off and check everything behind it. It shouldn't wobble. (Only you should wobble...)
In all seriousness, I'd hate for that crank to get enough vibrations to spin a bearing. No one has ever proven this to have an effect on that, but enough people HAVE had bad experiences.

Have any of the mechanics you've had look at it been Honda certified?

No, not yet. Was hoping to figure it out without having to pay Honda $65 and give them my car for a day. It takes forever to get a car in around here.

1-866-MAHDAVI. (Or 770-923-1550 if you have free long distance) Tomorrow, here's what you do. Call over there and ask to speak with Sam Mahdavi... or just Sam, he's the only one there. (owner)

He's a good guy. Tell him what it's doing, and ask him if you should worry. He's played with a lot of H22A's. I'd trust him over any damn Honda dealership.

So I talked to Sam today and he said I should worry. He said that he has seen this happen and that I need to replace the crank pulley, before it screws up the engine. Not the news I wanted to hear, but at least I know now.

Did he have any insight on what might have caused the problem?

Right now it is time for whatever I can get asap and for a decent price. After having just bought new tires, and a couple of tickets I am rather short on funds.

look, you have got to STOP saying simple "Sam" it's too damn confusing, how about when refering to him Sam M, or Lil Sam, and just call me God...... i mean Sam J, or Big Sam

Sam M. has one at his shop right now. He also said that he might be coming to the Tuner's Playground show here in Montgomery this Saturday. I told him I would give him a call tomorrow and let him know something.

In case you're thinking about replacing it with a UR pulley...

I'll have to agree with you also. I've done quite a bit of research myself and also came to the same conclusion, actually 3 months ago I traded even my UR UltraRace for a factory 2000 H22 pulley.
While we're on the subject, think of the added stressto the already brittle H22 oil pump rotor.

Probably the best move. Unless you are running a hard-core race engine that is rebuild often, it appears using one will shorten engine life. all depends how often you do rebuilds I guess...
