Shocks vs Struts?

Basically shocks (coilover type used on Hondas) support the weight of the car and control up and down movement only.
Struts (McPherson struts specifically) do the same as above, but also take the place of some of the suspension arms (like spindles and upper control arms). So Mac struts control some of the suspension geometry as well as control up and down movement.
