First off, if you want information, read this forum daily and use the SEARCH button for any and all questions first.
Second, if you want to make your car faster, I always suggest I/H/E. I/H/E stands for Intake, Header, and Exhaust. If you start with that you won't be likely to spend a whole lot of money or mess anything major up. Plus that way you can find out if you really enjoy doing it.

My recommendation to you is go with a Comptech Icebox, a Comptech 4-2-1 header, and a Comptech exhaust. That is a very good, un-ricey setup.

you could opt to work on your suspension and be ***** fast through the turns. higher rate springs or coilovers mated to some good high performance shocks with a larger rear swaybar and better tires at the least..everything but the tires can probably be put on yourself

everyone is probably going to tell you that working with a gs/ls motor is going to be difficult, especially if you're not going to use forced induction, so i'd work on the suspension first. but above all things, enjoy yourself!
