Default year of d series tranny

I did a search on this and checked a link which displayed the differences and it says for 89 it has one grove on the input shaft and 90-91 trannies have 2 groves. Anyone know if this is 100% true b/c I picked up a tranny from a 90 crx si and he said it was a 90 but it only has one grove on it and the flywheel and clutch size is the same size from a 90-91 which is 212 mm. If someone is positive about this please let me know, thanx
