while i recently ran over a big piece of hard something on the road and it cracked my front fight rim, but to cut the story short i replaced all the rims and balanced them and remounted them, so my question is my steering wheel begins to shake at around 70-80 mph and its not a violent shake but its there and its considerably noticeable. i think it might be the outer tie rod, but i am not completely sure, is there anythign else that could cause steering wheel vibration?
could be front rotors are warped... what type of "weight" did they balance the wheels with? the kind that sticks on like a sticker or the kind they hammer on to the wheel?
you might also want to do an all wheel alignment. maybe your toe-in is off or whatnot. i had toe problem and it wore the hell out of my tires till driverside popped. not fun. def check alignment imo
My civ was doing that too for a day or so when I would hit 70 mph, then it just stopped. Now it's back to normal. How long has this been going on?
alignment problems usually show up through tire wear or twitchy handling. It shouldn't show up as a shaking steering wheel. When you cracked the rim, did you get everything else checked out as well? tie rods, axle, etc? Are your rotors warped? Are you sure that your tires are balanced correctly? Most shops offer warranties on their balancing.
does it go away when you let off the gas? if so inner joints that are bad it will do that. start east. balance the tires at a good shop.

i dont think it's the rotors, if it's the rotor it'll shake when he's braking, i'm pretty sure that big piece something fucked your alignment up.
hope that helps.

oh yeah and about the tire balancing shop....i have been going to the same shop with the same guy for nearly 3 years and all of the other times i had my tires done there i had no problem at all, so i've kind of ruled that one out.

I'd get them checked again cuz I had the same problem....I was rolling on my steelies and at 60-70 mph my steering wheel would shake bad..then when I got my rims put on I got them mounted and balanced and I can go 90+ smoothly, no shakes....

I'm having that same problem right now. I have to take my car to a frame shop, it's more than just my joints.

I also have the same problem, around 75-80MPH. It did it before I lowered the car so its not the drop. I do know that the car was in an accident with the provious owner so it might be frame damage. Don't know what I need to do though. I guess I do need an alignment though.

i recently drove my car through some familiar roads that i know that arent full of bumps and always had a smooth ride, well it turns out that the steering wheel shakes a little bit both on deceleration and acceleration.
sounds like you some of you guys need hubcentric rings.

yeah i was thinking of doing an alignment this week because its really beginning to annoy me and im not going to fix this problem unless i start somewhere. Besides the alignment shop should be able to tell me if my tie rods or shot then if not and the problem persists i am going to lean towards rebalancing my tires.
what kind of wheels are you using? stock or aftermarket? exactly what kind?

after i damaged my front right wheel i was unable to find a replacement because they were no longer in production, so i bought four new rims, rota circuit 8s
Do you have little rings inside the rims to center them on your hub? My bet is that is your problem.

what do you mean by little rings inside the rims? like where the bolt pattern is? i ask this because i dont know what to look for if i check, shouldnt new rims come with these little rings? i thought that the dome shape of the lug nuts centered the rim to the hub
