My *cough* Limited RSX Type S Review.
First off, I apologize if this isn't the place to post something like this. It seems many R owners are interested in the RSX, and there isn't an RSX forum yet.
Ok, yesterday my girlfriend and I went to the Acura Dealership on Route 34 (Ogden Avenue) in what I would guess to be Lisle (?) Illinois. (It was more of a "I know there is an Acura Dealership on 34, we're going to drive until we find it" kind of thing.)
Now, a little background information. I came driving up in a '93 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I'm a computer programmmer. I don't know the meaning of "comb" "haircut" or "matching clothes"
I'm not scruffy or anything, lol... but at a glance it doesn't look like I even have a job. So, I guess this review is more about what an *** the salesman was.
I walked in, and I had to ASK for help. I was being ignored by almost everyone. (Except people who were looking at me and clearing their throat when I touched a car in their showroom.) So I FINALLY get a salesman to acknowledge me.
"Hi. I'm Eli (Shakes Hands), I'm looking for a 2001 Integra Type R. It said on your listings on the internet that you guys have one."
"Hahahahaha. No no no, we sold that MONTHS ago."
"Oh... OK"
So, I decided to turn it in to an RSX test driving opportunity.
"Well, I'm interested in something like the R, under $30,000 that's sporty, fast, and everything else."
THE SALESMAN THEN WALKS ME OVER TO THE TL.
"Um... no. I was thinking something along the lines of an RSX."
So, to make a long story short, the salesman gave me the RSX brochure, fed me a bunch of crap that wasn't even remotely accurate or true, and it seemed like he was trying to get me to leave. So...
"Do you have a Type S I can take for a test drive?"
"Uhh... y..es."
"Is that it outside? (points)"
"Yes"
Then there was a few seconds of ackward silence, and my girlfriend and I started walking to the car. After standing there for a few seconds, the salesman got the keys.
He finally comes meandering outside, and here I thought he was opening the driver side door for ME. But, he opens it, and FLOPS HIS BIG *** IN.
"May I drive?"
"No, I'm afraid not."
By this time, I didn't even care anymore. I just wanted to ride in the RSX. The girlfriend piled in the back, and we went on our way.
The salesman was shifting around 3,000 - 4,000 RPM. As I understand, the i-VTEC kicks in around 6,000? So, this chump was shifting way before the engine even had a chance to spin up. The car sounded cool though. I liked the way it sounds. Kind of like... a space shuttle
It was NOT a quiet car. But, I liked that.
The interior was VERY cool. The seats were awesome. The climate controls were very cool. I liked the gauges, and the stereo seemed ample. I say ample because I don't listen to music loud
The car rode well, had a stiff suspension, and cornered well. I just get the feeling the car can drive about twice as fast as he was driving it.
We finally got back, and both my girlfriend and I got a hardy laugh. ...The salesman was driving like SUCH a *****, and shifting so hard it was making me sea sick. I swear. I probably make more than his stupid ***... I don't see why he was being so protective over his PRECIOUS Type S.
The car has potential. I would have bought it. If the salesman wasn't being an A-1 *******.
The moral of the story? Don't judge a book by its cover. God dammit.

yeah some salesmen are dumbasses...when i went to buy my ITR, i had 2 of them at each other's throats...cuz i had called once to check if the ITR was there thn another time to tell them i was coming to take a look nd when i got there tey're lik "He called me" "well he has my name written down!" ...thent he bastardstried to charge me 30K for it...jerks
LOL!! I hope those two salesrep were at each others throat! From my understanding, the R pays the most commission of all vehicles on the Acura lot sold by employees.
Same thing happened to me when my parents told me to go looking for a car in the sub 25k price range. (Please don't hurt me!) I looked at the Celica and Eclipse basically by myself. I finally got to drive a Celica GT-S when my mom got there. The day I walked in the Acura dealership though I was greated like I was Bill Gates. They now have another sale thanks paying attention to customers. I would have picked the "R" anyway but they made it easier.
i had a similar experience like you when i went to test drive a wrx; i was dressed like a homeless gent. i was generally avoided until i cornered a salesman and said i wanted to drive the car.
i understand their reluctance to talk to people who look scruffy, i sell high end fitness equipment and used to fall into the same assumptions. however, i've learned to push that aside and treat everyone equally, the biggest buyers generally don't dress in suits.
i wouldn't buy from that dealership. call ahead and make an appt for a test drive, i guarantee you'll get the best treatment because they'll see $$$.

I have a similar story, but with a different attitude...I went into the Acura dealership thinking I was going to be treated like this...
I'm a college (at the time) student, with a pony tail down to my *** and a baseball cap on backwards...I didn't expect to see a type R in the showroom, but that was what I was looking for. Keep in mind that I looked like some heavy metal freak (wearing an Ozzy shirt) with my long hair, I don't look like I have 2 nickles to rub together. But they didn't judge me for the way I looked...I drove the car from the dealership 2 days later.
since that day, everyone still remembers me, likes to see what i have done to the car, etc...(even though last year I moved 1200 miles away) every time I in the area, I stop in and say hi....
THAT is what I expect from a dealership...still to this day, I have to ask for help in car dealers and it pisses me off...I pay their salary and they can't see if I have any questions...
And then there's the ones that flock to you before you get out of the car, that happened to me the other day, but that is another story.....

Update: I just went to the acura deakership to ask about lojack and there was a TypeS in the showroom...we were ignored for 30 min so i was like what the hell and i took the Type-S shifter HAHAHA...i wonder if it fits on my R....that would be so cool...whoa ur ITR is 6 speeds? Yup. Whoaaa..haha
I can understand your frustration but you know what. I hope I never buy a car that was beat on because guys like you want to beat on it and then buy a different car. Yeah maybe you make more than him and maybe even drive better. But atleast he drove it with care so that the next guy who buys that car wont have any problems. I always fear when getting a new car that someone has already beat on it...
I agree most dealers are just annoying....
And that was a very punk thing to do to steal that ****....
Do you also steal emblems when no one is looking?

a) they treated me w/lots of respect and professioanlism
b) I got the damn car.

BTW, Acura has got to work on their slaes people relations... I walk into a bimmer/lexus/benz delaership and they treat me like a king... Acura treats people as if they would be buying a Taurus.
They're a fukin luxury car sales people, its about time they act that way, i never once had a good experiance w/acura... weather it was sales or service.

You should be able to order direct from Acura. I don't mind them treating me like an ******* at the Dealership as long as I get the car I want... It just kind of sucks that I'm PAYING THEM to treat me like an *******. ...asses
(Wow, I said *** 3 times)

lol. Yes, I can't say I STOLE anything. ...Anything besides the salesman's heart. lol

I get the feeling you think I'm just some wreckless kid... I really just wanted to see if the car was fun driving, not see how long I could floor it before the engine exploded

Indy's hatin on me...oh well, my excuse is that I am a punk kid. Not like trying to charge people 5,000 dollars over sticker isn't a punk thing to do either...
Yeah the treatment you get at an Acura place is kind of like the same as you would get at a Honda or Toyota dealership, nmot even close to what you get at a BMW/Benz, etc etc. The guy who sold me my R was pretty cool and knew about the car, but he was the exception.
And yes, stealing the **** was a really punk thing to do. **** like that just makes it harder for the average respectful young man to walk into a dealership and ask for a test-drive, because dealers are scared of teenage ricers who steal/deface things and just want to take a joyride. Although I guess it doesn't matter to you since your Dad could come in and request a test drive in your stead. Just think about those on this board that don't have rich parents to buy them cars next time you rip something off.
io_burn,
Nahh I fully understand that you wanted to test it out and get the feel for the car. But there are some people out there that have no intentions to buy the car and only wanna beat on a brand new engine...
As for ITR from Rockland,
well, I dont hate anyone but you do make it harder for people like me to walk in and get treated respectfully. Perhaps thats why they ignored you in the first place? Did they catch you on camera before? hehehe.....

I guess that I'm the king of test drivers here. I've test driven several cars even after buying the R. The first car that I ever test drove was the Honda Insight; pretty cool car BTW. Then I've test driven a '94 Supra Twin Turbo 6-speed, '99 Firebird Trans AM 6-speed, '01 Mercury Cougar 5-speed, '99 BMW M3. By far the best customer service would be BMW. BMW dealers are probably the best around. They treat you like a freakin' Tzar. Anyways, I was walking into the BMW dealership of Orland Park and sitting outside was the new M3 in the awesome Laguana Seca Blue. I had my digital camera with me and took hella pictures of it. So a dealer sees my and comes to me saying how he can help me. So to look not stupid I asked if there were any used M3's stick. To my surprise the dealer had a silver one on the lot. Then the next thing he asks me is "lets go for a test drive." No matter how poor or ragdy you look, European car dealers will approach you with respect. But it also depends on the dealership. I love dealers like this who approach you. I'm kind of stunned because the salesman requests a test drive and I didn't even ask for one. So immediately he goes gets the keys and doesn't even ask for my license and were on our way for the drive. We should have more dealers like him. Just excellent service! Probably the only reason why he asked for the test drive was probably because I drove to the dealership with my R. hehe!!! Anyways a week later, I'm in the area and stop by the Acura dealership to pick up my new R floormats. I see the dealer who sold the R to my and outside were two used NSX's one '95 5-speed and one '97 6-speed. Once my dealer saw me he comes out with the keys to the '95 NSX and gave me the ride of my lifetime. (I didn't drive it) The dealer, Dereck, was begging me to trade in my R cause the R sells like crazy and that he would give me a good deal on the NSX. I started to laugh because there's no way in hell that I'm prepared to own an NSX. The next day the NSX was sold! I guess the closer you are with a dealer, the better the service would be; although I was kind of stunned and surprised of BMW!

Screw it! You took it, it's yours. Case closed. Honda of Serramonte in the SF Bay Area is the same way. They suck and you have to get their attention. WTF!?!? So I walked out and bought my GSR two years ago instead of a Civic. They don't deserve my business if they don't give me any respect. And I was in a suit as well! Oh well, their loss.
