Default I need to set my belt timing on my ZC, what is the best/easiest/most accurate way

After I put a Junkyard Throttle Body from an Si onto my ZC it finally is back on the streets after a month and a half. However when I set my belt timing it was slightly off so now it feels like as slow as when it was a DX. I heard if you take off the valve cover or something it makes it easier to see. I have no problem doing it. However last time when I tried to set it I was matching up the marks on the cam gears and when I would turn them to line them up as soon as I let go to put the belt on they would slip back, most likely the valve springs pushing back the lobes and thus moving the cam. How can I get around that. Help me out as I am pretty much done with this and I want it to run as good as it can.

you can maybe get someone to help. have them put a wrench (12mm if i remember correctly) on the cam gear bolts, and hold them in the correct position while you lock the timing belt down.

yeah, if you take off the valve cover, and look right behind the cam gears, you'll see the cam alignment holes that go through the cams. ("behind" meaning if you look from the driver's side fender, the holes are just on the passenger side of the gears.) ... that was poorly explained.. but i think you get it.

Cam alignment holes? Like I can stick something in there to lock them or something?

OK I see what he meant, I took these pictures so anyone searching for this info could see with their own eyes beforehand.

The bolts I used were the bolts from the dashpot on the TB.

the internet is powerful indeed. just to reiterate... here's another look at those alignment holes from the top. well, one hole at least. i hate calling them "holes." there's gotta be a better, more technical word for them...
