timing belt change....tips? advice?
Hi all. Im about to replace my water pump, timing belt, accesory belts, thermostat, and fan switch. The most indepth thing ive done prior to this would have to be a simple exhaust installation, so im not 100% sure of what im getting myself into. Ive got detailed how to's from archived posts (god bless honda-tech
), and c-speedracing, but just wanted to see if anybody had any tips or advice to help everything run smoothly. Thx

I hope you have an air wrench or a looong breaker bar to get the crank pulley bolt off. I had to give up and take my car to a shop to have the work done.
Air tools will help, however you'll need another set of hands when you're putting tension on the new timing belt; one set to put tension on the belt and the other set to tighten the tension pulley.

Thanks, we appreciate the glory, but you might want to get yourself a Helm manual, too. They are worth it.

if you are not changeing the tenioner before you take the belt off loosen up the tenioner bolt when the crank is at tdc and push down on the belt inbetween the 2 cams and then tighten up the tenioner pully belt and it will make it easyer to put the new belt on and once the belt is on loosen the bolt and turn the crank counter **** wise to take up the loose belt and then tourque the tenioner pully bolt back up to i beilive it is about 32 ft. lb.

air tools did not work for any motor I've ever worked on. I use a breaker bar and an 8ft length of chain link fence post slipped over it to pop the bolt loose. If you can get your hands on a pulley holder tool, it'll make your life a lot easier too. I've done 'em without, but it's a LOT easier when you're got it.
I found a tool very valuable in helping to get the crank bolt off http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/SP-60100.html

air doesn't allways work. I couldn't get thebolt off and i had to take it to a shop. I read something about taking one of the spark plugs out and putting a strong rope in the cylinder. so when you use air the pully wont move. sounds to risky to me though. try heating up the bolt. it might help
