Default prepping bumper...

i'm almost done with my hatch's exterior...so far i've shaved rear key holes and side moldings...and fixed major dents...so far i've left my rear bumper alone..its fine except the stock paint has chipped off, like 20% of it...how do i prep it for primer...i know sanding wont do, am i suppose to use that paint stripper, is it safe for the rear bumper? then after that i use a semi fine grit to get it ready for primer..?? am i right? any advice on the bumper...should i use the paint stripper...?

You don't have to sand the whole paint off. With a med. grit sandpaper, sand the area where the paint has chipped off. Then use a finer sandpaper after that. Just make sure that the area that still has paint and the area where it has fallen off is silky smooth, when you run ur hands through it, you don't feel a step. I usually use 4 diff. types of grit sand paper. The last 1 is a super fine grit and it's wet sand.
The whole bumber should feel super smooth. Good luck!

it looks bad though...the part where the paint chips are...seems pretty deep, more than just step...you can actually use your finger nails and peel it off with ease...i guess if i did leave it the paint shop would do the rest, i doubt they'd paint it and have the step visible...
