Default For those of us who have some FPR tuning experience..

Hey guys.. I FINALLY got a FPR/guage for my prelude, now I need to know what a good generic setting for a car w/ I/H//E??? I know the car is running about 11.8:1 across the board right now, so I assume leaning it out a little by a couple PSI would help.. Thanks guys..

I don't know if I'll have time to dyno tune next week, and I have a race next weekend, thats why I am asking..

I have no idea on the setting, but what kind of FPR and guage did you get.
I have been searching for a good one.

Generic Ebay 80$ buy it now one.. Looks to be a high quality "rebadge" Looks better than a B&M and guage, which is 80$..

not sure about your brand, but I'm pretty sure the B&M one will not permit a lower-then-stock setting.

and the B&M one is $50ish, with the gauge -

I think the stock setting is 39psi or so. I have the AEM FPR and just have it at stock settings for now until I get some dyno time. (And after finishing off my hp mods)

Stock is 42 psi. I have my aeromotive one set at 36psi and it pulls nicely. I also have a walbro fuel pump that upped pressure a bit though so you would have to actually dyno to find your sweet spot.

I would say for you to leave it @ 38 and see how it feels.

I would "think" that going down a few PSI would help.. Anyone have any experience on a Dyno w/ one?

well, you just increased the amount of air you're flowing, and with higher compression you really might want an A/F meter before you start leaning something out.

Leaner makes it faster, but you made it leaner by increasing the air coming in and out.

I jumped my fp when I added stuff (when I was more stock), and it made my car quicker by about .10 in the 1/4 than when I ran it leaner.

Just a thought.

lol its not that serious.. All a FPR is change the fuel Pressure. There wont be no dramatic leaning out of the car as long as you stay within spec.. Stock is 42psi. If you want you can bump it down to 40 or even 38psi.. And then see how the car feels. I know anything below 34 and it will idle like crap and run like crap and I had mine a 36 for a few and it pulled hard, but without a A/F monitor of any sort I just put it back to 38 for peace of mind..

Stock is not 42psi for a 4gen VTEC. The Helms reads 36-38 I believe. Or 36-40 maybe.

Oops sorry I have a 5th gen. And a walbro pump. So i was just going off the intial reading once it was installed before I adjusted it. Different setups will vary..

Wow, thanks for the input guys.. Might just drop the pressure 2PSI, and see how it does..

sorry for my n00biness but wouldnt more air flow mean you should up the fuel pressure?

some lower it a bit to gain a few extra hp'

instead of flooding it with fuel and such, running it a bit lean may help to burn less.. dammit i am no help

nevermind..

the car runs a tad rich though, so I think we are looking to try to lean it back

Good question. Good answers.. You are exactly right. And preludes run rick stock from the factory. Its just the way the motor and ECU are setup. So you can lean it out a little and get a few ponies in the Power band for sure.. A VAFC would be more helpful to do so, however a FPR helps as well..

I did the same and mine was at 32 or 34psi. What could cause that?

What's a good amount of fuel pressure for i/h/e with slightly advanced timing?

Ive got the B&M one...and i dont have a guage, but i turned it up...and using my a/f guage, and my ecu it runs rich..goes all the way to green at WOT...and i expierenced the same thing as Todd, i leanmed out my feul via the Vafc, and it made my car slower..., for some reason the H22 seems to like running rich...like my feul is set at neg 1 percent correction on the high cam only...if i lean it out my trap speeds slow down as do my 1/4 mile times..very weird...peace

Yeah ludes are set to run rich from the factory. Its part of their design. The ideal setup is to not only adjust fuel but to do timing as well. So you see a VAFC and FPR can only do so much for you, which is where a Hondata setup would come in to fine tune all the spots..

And 4bidden if you still have your stock fuel pump that may be the reason why you are getting such low fuel pressure. I know my stock pump in my accord and in the civic now was never able to keep low static pressure so the car would buck on low RPMs.. If you havent already you should upgrade your pump. I garuntee you will notice a difference..

Interesting seeing how my car has a hesitation problem. Pump is stock and the car is a 92.

4bidden I am talking from experience with both my cars when i had the type S engine them. Always the same thing. And once I changed the Fuel pump there was a world of difference. I would recommend the walbro 255gh pump because it is cheap and effective

And as you know I had a 91 Accord before this and a 93 civic hatch now.. Remember you fuel pump is over 10 years old now..
