Recharging the A/C system...
Just a quick question when recharging the a/c system. How many cans of the a/c Freon do we need to use when recharging from completely empty? 1 or 2 or more? thanks for any help.

, but does anyone know how many of those cans you have to put in you get from like autozone or kragen? i've put in 1 so far but my a/c system isn't as cold as it used to be? is it something i should do professionally or just adding more will do the trick?

Just checked my helms. Its called R134A and you must evacuate the old crap first at a legal place.
The helms says 24.7 oz, and it is not model specific.

They should have left it as an option on all years.
You don't need A/C Joe, stop being a wuss.

Oops? Hopefully you didn't put anything but R134 into your A/C lines. Mixing refrigerants can really **** things up. Pressures in your A/C lines will change (+) when you mix them.
Typically, it's not a DIY job. Whenever you've taken refrigerant out of the A/C system, the whole system needs to be evacuated and purged of all extra refrigerants, moisture, contaminants, etc before it's refilled again.
You'll need to check the manual for the proper way to recharge the system. There are many ways.. believe me.

I had mine recharged this week. The car is a 96er so it needed doing, its proper cold now :-).
I would tackle a lot of things on my car, but not the ac system as I know nothing about it. My local garage had some fairly serious looking equipment and had to weigh the gas already in the system so I think it must be quite a complex procedure, cost me about £90/$144.
